Bayonne Property Taxes Due by Grace Date of Monday, August 10, 2020

The Bayonne Tax Collector’s Office announced that third quarter property tax payments are due on Monday, August 10. The nominal legal due date for the tax bills is Saturday, August 1.  However, the City Council authorized a grace period through the close of business on Monday, August 10.  Payments made by that date will avoid a late fee.  Property owners may pay their taxes by mail or in person at City Hall, 630 Avenue C, or at Bayonne branches of BCB Community Bank, or through the City of Bayonne website, www.bayonnenj.org.  The third quarter bills are called estimated bills, because Hudson County has not struck an official tax rate yet for 2020.  The county will announce the tax rate in August.

By state law, quarterly payments received after the close of business on Monday, August 10, will incur interest charges dating back to Saturday, August 1, the nominal, legal due date for the third quarter.  For anyone making payment in person on August 10, the Tax Collector’s Office strongly recommends paying in person at City Hall before the close of business that day at 4:30 p.m.  There are boxes inside the two sets of front doors at City Hall where taxpayers can drop off various payments. Be sure to drop your tax payment in the tax box, which looks like a mailbox.

Those who handle their property taxes through their monthly mortgage payments should have received advice copies of the property tax bills in the most recent tax mailing.  They should continue paying their property taxes through their mortgages.

Bayonne Joins With County for Small Business Grant Program

            Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the City of Bayonne is joining with the Hudson County Small Business Grant Program: “I understand the difficulties facing our small business community, and I have been fighting hard to get much-needed aid. With the constantly changing guidelines from the federal government, we have faced unpredictable delays.  However, I am happy to announce we will be teaming up with the program being created by Hudson County to facilitate the Small Business Grant Program.  This will allow us to support Bayonne’s businesses better during the application process.  I am confident in the county’s abilities and our ability as a city to make it through this trying time.”

            This program is designed to provide financial grants to small businesses affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic.  First priority will be given to businesses which have not received any federal grant assistance, New Jersey Economic Development Authority grants, U.S. Small Administration grants, or any other grant assistance.  While the county is currently completing the application, small businesses can begin to prepare for the application process by gathering the following documents that will be needed to be uploaded in digital format:

+ Copy of last Form WR-30 filed with the State of New Jersey

+ Copy of last filed federal income tax return or proof of owner draws

COVID-19 UPDATE 7/16/2020

Under the direction of Mayor Davis, OEM provides weekly updates on the status of Bayonne in relation to the COVID-19 Health Emergency.

Bayonne Residents CURRENTLY Positive – 62*

  • The number above reflects only the Bayonne residents that are CURRENTLY COVID-19 Positive.  We have 1,120 Bayonne residents that have been removed from the Active COVID-19 resident list.

OEM UPDATE:  To date, 1,229 Bayonne residents have tested positive for COVID-19, regardless of where that test was given. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 74 Bayonne residents have passed away due to Coronavirus-related illnesses.

BAYONNE MEDICAL CENTER (BMC) UPDATE:  As of today, 3,904 people have been tested by the BMC.  3,143 have tested Negative, while 761 have tested Positive for a Positivity Rate of 19.49%.  On 7/10/20, the BMC announced there were no longer any COVID-19 inpatients at that facility.  Since that date, one resident was admitted.  There are no persons admitted as Persons Under Investigation for COVID-19, nor are there any COVID-19 patients in the Critical Care Unit (CCU).

PREVENTION:  Please continue to use good hygiene and do not touch your face.  These two simple facts have remained constant since the beginning of the health emergency.

Hoboken Arts Advisory Committee launches art box mural project

The Hoboken Arts Advisory Committee today launched the “Art Box Mural Project” to beautify 15 utility boxes along Washington Street. The City of Hoboken, along with the committee, invite all artists who live or work in Hoboken to submit art proposals reflecting the theme of “equality and inclusion” to be painted on the utility boxes. 15 selections will be based on relevance to the theme, quality of work and proven experience with similar projects. Artists without previous public art experience are also encouraged to apply.

“Hoboken is committed to beautifying our public spaces and supporting our local artists, and I’m thrilled the arts committee is undertaking this quality of life initiative,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “The theme of equality and inclusion selected by the committee for the murals is an important one, as Hoboken will always be a fair and welcoming place where all are treated with respect. Thank you to all seven members of the arts committee for their continued efforts on this important project for our City.”

New Class of Police Officers SWORN INTO Jersey City Police Department

Mayor Fulop to Swear in 25 new police officers

Mayor Steven M. Fulop, Public Safety Director James Shea, and Police Director Tawana Moody announce 15 new police officers to take the Oath of Office on Thursday, July 16th, at 2:30p.m.  Nearly 90% of those being sworn in represent various minority populations as part of the Administration’s diversity recruitment efforts.

The Fulop administration has made diversity recruitment a top priority, and as a result, 70-percent of the new officers hired since 2013 have been minorities.

Hudson County Community College Foundation Announces New Christopher M. Reber Endowed Scholarship Fund

Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Foundation Board of Directors Chair, Joseph Napolitano, Sr., announced that the College’s President, Dr. Christopher M. Reber, has pledged a personal donation of $50,000 to establish an endowed scholarship fund for full- and part-time HCCC students.  Dr. Reber will fulfill this pledge through payroll deduction over the next five years.  He plans to continue adding funds to the scholarship endowment throughout his lifetime and through his estate planning.

Mr. Napolitano said Dr. Reber created the endowment to provide a stable and perpetual source of income that will assist HCCC students in paying tuition and achieving their academic goals with fewer interruptions or postponements.

More than 90% of HCCC students are eligible for financial aid or scholarships. The Christopher M. Reber Endowed Scholarship will be awarded by the HCCC Foundation Award Selection Committee to full- and part-time students enrolled at the College, including Dreamers and international students, who are in good academic standing; have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5; and demonstrate financial need.

20 UNIT DEVELOPMENT IN DOWNTOWN JERSEY CITY ‘S FOURTH STREET FINALIZED

The Jersey City Zoning Board voted unanimously in favor of a four-story development on Fourth Street.

Alan Cancro’s proposal for 377 Fourth Street, in Jersey City was voted unanimously in favor by the Jersey City Zoning Board. Cancro is the owner of the proposed developments four lots.

According to the 9,000 Square-foot buildings plan includes a lobby with the elevator on ground floor, landscaping space in rear of the structure and an area for bicycle parking.

Also proposed for the development a roof-top deck 1,800. Sq. Ft. access by elevator.
