Riverview Neighborhood Assoc. AND Washington Park Assoc. to Host August Movies in the Park

Jersey City, NJ—The Riverview Neighborhood Association (RNA) and Washington Park Association (WPA) will present Movies in the Park(s) on the first four Friday’s in August.

 Riverview Park will feature “Young Frankenstein” on August 3 and “True Grit” on August 17. Washington Park will show “Spider Man” on August 10 and “Take the Lead” on August 24. At Riverview Park (Palisade and Griffith) the movies are shown just south of the flagpole. Washington Park will show the movies on the baseball field at Paterson Plank Road and 2nd Street (enter on 2nd Street).

CABBIE SHOOTER ARRESTED! Fare Beater Turned Shooter, Victim Still Critical

JERSEY CITY- Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and Police Department officials announced the arrest of the man believed responsible for the point-blank shooting of a cab driver in the early morning hours in a Greenville neighborhood.

The police manhunt for the gunman responsible for the Monday morning shooting of Yellow taxi driver Maged F. Rizkallah ended Thursday afternoon unexpectedly when the lead suspect in the case, James A. Purcell, 21, walked into the West Precinct on Communipaw Avenue and questioned why police were looking for him, officials said. “While we pray for the recovery of Mr. Rizkallah, I must commend the police department for their thorough investigation and speedy arrest in this case that was equally disturbing as it was challenging for investigators,” said Mayor Healy. Jersey City Officials Warn of Imposter Reval Inspectors

Reminds Residents that Inspectors DO NOT take Photographs Inside of the Home

JERSEY CITY – City officials are reminding residents about what identification to look for regarding property tax revaluation inspectors who will be coming to their homes following reports of alleged imposters.

All reval inspectors carry two forms of ID – one from the reval company and the other being a letter of introduction from the City. Authorized inspectors are registered with the Police Department and DO NOT take photographs inside of the residence.

Anyone who is not sure if the inspector requesting entrance to their home is legitimate, should get the inspector’s name and ask them to wait outside while they contact the City’s Reval Hotline at 201-547-4538 (available during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Residents can also find a link to the photos, names, and vehicle identification information on the city website. If you believe an imposter inspector is at your home, please call 911.

 JERSEY CITY- Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and Police Department officials announced the arrest of a local man connected with shooting four people during recent brazen gunplay on city streets.

Anthony Spence, 19, of Woodlawn Avenue, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon without incident at his Woodlawn Avenue home in the Greenville section of the city. South Precinct detectives backed by heavily armored officers from the Emergency Services Unit prepared for a violent confrontation, but Spence showed no resistance, officials said. City of Bayonne Opens Cooling Centers, Adds Pool Hours to Counter Heat Wave

   Mayor Mark A. Smith invited residents to use the three cooling centers that the City has opened. Bayonne’s three senior centers will also serve as cooling centers from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from Thursday, July 5, through Sunday, July 8. They are located at 16 West 4th Street (near Broadway), 597 Broadway (near 27th Street), and 329 Avenue B (at 56th Street). The DiDomenico Pool at 16th Street will be open extended hours from 10:30 a.m. through 9:00 p.m., Thursday, July 5, and Saturday, July 7, weather permitting. That pool will have regular hours in effect, 10:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m., on Friday, July 6, and Sunday, July 8, weather permitting. At Lincoln Community School, the Skutnick Pool will be open from 6:00 p.m. through 10:00 p.m., Thursday, July 5, through Sunday, July 8, for use as a cooling center and to provide relief from the heat. During the heat wave, please be sure to take the necessary precautions to avoid heat exhaustion. If possible, avoid going outdoors during the heat of the day, drink plenty of fluids, and don’t overexert yourself. Please take the time to check in on elderly or disabled friends and relatives to make sure they are all right. If necessary, contact the Bayonne Police Department for assistance at 201-858-6900.

NY NJ Car Service in Kearny Saves the Day for Frantic NJ Traveler – a thank you note from her mother

Things like this happen, our daughter Annie had scheduled  to leave on a much-needed  vacation. She was leaving for Spain and that is all she talked about for weeks. Carefully she had planned for every detail on her own. Hotel reservations, airline  reservations, tours and she had planned on driving her self to the airport. So everything was a go.

Recently divorced this was  a trip of a lifetime for her  and a trip to prove to herself that she could make it on her own. She was so excited and so was my husband George and I for her.

We live in Atlanta Georgia, where I write for a community paper, my husband George and I were going to watch our two grandchildren. Our x- son -in- law Danny an  important IT person was  also going out-of-town on business and so he and my daughter Annie  asked  George and I  if  we wouldn’t mind watching the kids. Of course we jumped at the chance.

Our flight was to land  four hours after our daughter left on her flight, and Danny our x- son-in-law would be with the children when we arrived at his home.

Our flight landed perfectly and we arrived at Danny’s home. When we got there he said “Marci you and George missed all the action this morning.” Is Annie OK ? Did she leave on time. I asked.  Well yes, and no , Danny continued,  Annie was leaving the house to drive to the airport and found she had a flat tire. You know Annie, how many times did I try to teach her to fix a flat. My husband looked pained because he knew he would be the one  to fix  the flat. Danny continued, Annie began calling the one cab company in her town and they said it would be an hour wait so she called me frantic  and  I said “Call this company in Kearny that I use on occasion  they will help you no mater what -their reliable  NY NJ Car Service  she did and they got there in 25 minutes with  a Town Car to pick her up.”  My husband and I became happy at the news that our  Annie got to the airport on time.
