Runoff in Bayonne Mayoral Race Has Candidates Mark Smith and Jimmy Davis Again Campaigning into June

Election night May 13th results  in Bayonne  was a surprise to everyone especially the candidates for Mayor and the City Council candidates.

With both sides hoping to claim victory the results showed both Mayor Mark Smith and challenger Jimmy Davis each receiving 48% of the vote and the third candidate Anthony Zanowic receiving just 4%

The sure win of the night was 1st Ward Councilman -Elect Thomas Cotter who beat incumbent Councilwoman Agnes Gilesppie

Actor Chris Mulkey Who plays Hudson County Boss Frank Hague on HBO’s Boardwark Empire meets Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop

Photo by Steve Mack- On Sunday May 11th, actor Chris Mulkey of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire fame met with Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop. The two Mayors, Mulkey, who  plays legendary Hudson County Boss Frank Hague in the HBO mega hit Boadwalk Empire  ,and Mayor Fulop discussed Frank Hague,(Mayor Fulop showed Mulkey around Jersey City’s City Hall  and they also talked about the  new independent Film “The Jersey Devil,” which stars Mulkey shot in Jersey City with the assistance of NJCU film students.
Pictured above  Michael Billy, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, Chris Mulkey and Jarl Haugedal. Billy and Haugedal are partners in the  Jersey City based production companies; Humanity Pride Productions and Green Light Films which produce The Jersey Devil  Indie Film .
Fulop has given the green light on seeing Jersey City become the go to place for movies in New Jersey.

Contenders for Mayor, Council Running in Bayonne Election

Bayonne Election for Mayor and City Council May 13th , 2014 Just around the corner

If you don’t know who Mark Smith, James Davis and Anthony Zanowic are, then you are probably not aware of the upcoming Bayonne municipal election.

The three men are vying to get the most votes on May 13 to be propelled into the highest office in Hudson County’s southernmost city.

However, they are not the only ones on the ballot as there are candidates looking to represent each of the city’s three wards as well as two at-large seats on the City Council.

So in the final days before Election Day, those in the running for mayor and council are doing everything from pressing the flesh with constituents to debating each other in public venues in order to win.

It’s a cliché that applies not only to sports but just as appropriately to politics – in order to be number one, you have to beat number one. That applies to the challengers who seek to dethrone Mayor Mark Smith.

Smith, who has been mayor since November 2008, is running for a second four-year term.

To the chili-lover, there’s nothing tastier than a bowl of kidney beans, onions, and peppers simmering in a bath of spicy tomato sauce. Add in beef, pork or other meats and they may soon wax poetic on the art of a good bowl of chili.

Last year, more than 1,000 chili-lovers descended on Grove Street Plaza in Jersey City to taste a bounty of varieties of the hearty concoction created by local chefs and home-cooks vying for chili titles like Spiciest and Best Vegetarian. On Saturday, May 3rd, the plaza will once again be a hub of hungry chili-lovers salivating for some super chili samplings at the 5th annual 4th Street Arts Chili Cook-off and Fiesta Fundraiser. And while cook-off attendees chow down on some tasty chili, a panel of judges will taste-test and award Golden Spoons (wooden spoons painted gold) Golden Skillets and other prizes in several best chili categories. On hand was  herder Larry Cichanek & the little goats from Green-Goats- Rhinebeck NY -their eco-friendly solution to invasive weeds!
There was also Nature exhibits, Historic Walking tours (including the underground Bunker!!), Planting activities, facepainting by Danielle! food & refreshments with Honey Bakery & Famous Cals Hotdogs,Mother Earth Festival 5
 The Rugters HC 4-H, The Sierra Club, Frogs are Green project, guests were also privy to enjoy the “ Goats du Roam” Wine Bar by Fairview Winery, & even Starbucks was on hand to help out!

Attorney Paul Fishman and former NBA player Jayson Williams all being at the same place seems highly unlikely. Unless the issue is prisoner reentry.

The topic of ex-offenders coming back into society was what brought the four men into the same space as they were all keynote speakers at the Prisoner Reentry: Breaking the Cycle conference held on April 17 at Saint Peters University in Jersey City.

Employment and Training Office, Integrity House and Saint Peters University, is an extension of the policy goal of the new Employment and Training Office Director, former Governor Jim McGreevey, to help those coming out of jail to integrate back into society.

 

Williams, the onetime New Jersey Nets star, shared his powerful personal story of rebuilding his life after serving time in prison for several brushes with the law including the accidental shooting death of his limousine driver, Costas “Gus” Christofi, in 2002. ARTS EXPRESS- Jersey City Theater Center (JCTC) Opens Merseles Studios with Dance, Music, Drama and There’s More to Come!

Actors, playwrights, choreographers, musicians – artists who have longed for a new performance venue in Jersey City will be happy to learn two new spaces are opening up on Newark Ave: Merseles Studios on the second floor of the Monaco Lock building, and White Eagle Hall which is being renovated from a Turn-of-The 20th Century meeting hall to a space for rock ‘n’ roll just like Hoboken’s former icon Maxwell’s.

Together, Merseles Studios and White Eagle Hall stand under the umbrella of the newly-formed Jersey City Theater Center (JCTC), which is under the leadership of Artistic Director Olga Levina and Executive Director Ben LoPiccolo – both married to the project and each other. The couple’s dream of offering Jersey City artists new performance venues to express their art is a personal as well as professional achievement and the beginning of a journey that will likely be as interesting as the artists performing there.
