Hudson County Community College Celebrates Dedication of New Library Building

Area elected officials to join faculty, staff and administrators attend ceremonies marking the official grand opening of the new, six-story building on the College’s Journal Square campus.

On September 29th, 2014 Congressman Albio Sires, Hudson County Executive Thomas A. DeGise, and other elected officials and community leaders gathered with the Trustees, students, faculty, staff, and administration of Hudson County Community College (HCCC) for the official dedication of the College’s new Library Building.

The ribbon-cutting ceremonies took place inside the six-story, multifunctional structure, which is located at 71 Sip Avenue on the College’s Journal Square Campus in Jersey City. The 112,000 square-foot building is just steps away from the Journal Square PATH Transit Station.

 

Dr. Glen Gabert, President of HCCC, said the Library Building was designed to serve as a center of knowledge and learning, and to promote a sense of community and connectedness for students, faculty, staff, and all who live and work in Hudson County.

Jersey City and Union City are getting ready to roll out the red carpets and sprinkle some stardust as they prepare for four upcoming film festivals this fall. Could Hudson become the new Sundance East?

On Tues, Sept. 16 at 7 pm, world famous designer Tommy Hilfiger kicked off the 4th annual Golden Door International Film Festival at the landmark Loew’s Jersey City Theater in Journal Square. The festival runs Thurs, Sept. 18 with a Gala evening of films through Sun, Sept. 21 with awards given to the best of the fest. The night included Fashion guru Tommy Hilfiger, acclaimed actor Paul Sorvino and host of other film producers, actors, writers many who have submitted films to this years 2014 festival.

Actor and founder of the GDIFF Bill Sorvino hosted the event introducing Hilfiger.

U.S. National Martial Arts Elite Team Wright outkicked, outshouted, and outpunched their formidable opponents to take numerous 1st places in the Black, Brown, Green and Novice Divisions. The Team was led by Head Trainer, Internationally Recognized Multi-Discipline Grand Master Austin Wright Sr. This Year was an International Karate Championship because competitors came from Holland, Canada, & Algeria to name a few countries. Bayonne’s “Feet to the Street” September 21st Event Aims to Keep Bayonne Clean

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis’ performance as well as of his city council slate in the June 10 election were described by some political pundits as achieving a “clean sweep.”

On September 21, Davis and other city residents plan to do it for real.

Bayonne’s Feet To The Street Clean-up Event, sponsored by Davis and City Hall, will begin at City Hall Park (26th Street and Avenue C) at 9 am and will finish up at Gorman Field (1st Street and Humphrey Avenue) with a celebratory picnic with music and games.
