Mayor Fulop signs executive order Re-Affirming Jersey City Sanctuary City

JERSEY CITY – Joined today by a coalition of immigration advocates, Mayor Fulop today signed an executive order re-affirming and strengthening Jersey City’s Sanctuary City status and outlining a detailed policy on the matter for the Police Department and other city departments and agencies who work with the immigrant community.

As one of the most diverse cities in the nation, with 40 percent of the population foreign born and 75 languages spoken in the public schools, the executive order establishes a firm policy preventing city resources from being used on the enforcement of federal immigration law and will serve as a model for other cities in New Jersey and the nation.

“Jersey City has a long tradition of welcoming new immigrants to our country as the Golden Door to America and that is not going to change, despite the recent actions being taken by the President,” said Mayor Fulop. “This executive order reaffirms our Sanctuary City status and establishes a strong policy as we stand proudly and firmly with our immigrant community today and everyday.” Continue reading Mayor Fulop Signs Executive Order Re-Affirming Jersey City as a Sanctuary City; Drafted with Coalition of Immigration Advocates

10 Things Men Like To Do Before Football Games

By Jason Taylor

10 things men do before a football game Whether it’s Sunday morning, Monday night or the night before the Super Bowl, most men have rituals that they like to adhere to before a football game. Let’s take a look at some of the common things men will do in the moments or hours leading up to kickoff.

1) Make a Beer/Food Run

Watching football isn’t the same without a cold beer or a piping hot pizza to enjoy during the game. If you are going to the game, beer and food are a must for a quality tailgate. For those who don’t like to be ordinary with their food, some interesting meals could include brown sugar ribs, stuffed mushrooms, and beer-battered mad and cheese bites.

2) Watch the Preview Shows

Watching ESPN or CBS on a Sunday morning is almost like going to church for some. It gets fans in the mood for what they are going to be watching for the rest of the day.

3) Check Their Fantasy Lineups

Fantasy football is one of the most popular games on the planet right now. As players can be scratched up to 90 minutes before kickoff, it is important to check the roster one last time to ensure the best possible lineup. Continue reading 10 Things Men Like To Do Before Football Games

Statement from Hoboken Mayor Zimmer on Expanding the Southwest Park

I want to thank the entire City Council for voting 9-0 last night to statement Hoboken Mayor Zimmer authorize the use of eminent domain for the direct purchase of land to double the size of the Southwest Park.  This authorization provides the City with a valuable negotiating tool and will ensure that the property can be acquired for a price fair to both Academy Bus and the City of Hoboken. I also want to thank the City Council for their unanimous support for our application for Green Acres funding, which together with our Open Space Trust Fund, will enable us to acquire this property without any impact on our municipal taxes. Hoboken Mayor Zimmer letter to Residents Regarding the Southwest Park

Mayor Zimmer letter

 Dear Residents,
Tonight the City Council will consider an important vote to authorize the use of eminent domain to acquire the 2nd acre of property for expansion of the Southwest Park and for the application to Green Acres for a grant to buy the land.

Since all of Hoboken is concerned about traffic, open space, overdevelopment, and taxes, I am writing to provide some information on this important project because unfortunately, Academy Bus has chosen to completely misrepresent the facts surrounding this issue. Here’s some information for you to consider:

Park funding is available with no tax increase: The City has an Open Space Trust Fund, approved by the voters by a 3-1 margin in a public referendum in 2007, that is set aside exclusively  for park land acquisition and park construction. This fund currently has a balance of $7 million, and approximately $2 million is added to the fund each year. This fund, by itself, provides a bonding capacity of $69 million. This is enough to fund the debt for the purchase of the NW resiliency park as well as the two acres in the Southwest, without ANY increase in taxesContinue reading Hoboken Mayor Zimmer letter to Residents Regarding the Southwest Park
