Hoboken’s Mayor Zimmer Introduces 2017 Budget With Tax Cut

 

Hoboken's Mayor Zimmer Mayor Dawn Zimmer is introducing a municipal budget that continues to keep municipal taxes stable for the 7th straight year. The introduced 2017 budget includes a 1.25% reduction in the municipal tax rate, due to a flat municipal tax levy and an increasing ratable base.

Over the next 6 years, the City will invest $42 million in the water main system. This includes the $7 million water main replacement on Washington Street that is currently underway, $5.2 million for additional improvements authorized for priority areas, and $30 million through the 6-year capital plan which includes an additional $5 million per year over the next 6 years.

Bayonne Police Department Reschedules Vehicle Auction for Tuesday, March 21

The Bayonne Police Department Rescheduled the  Vehicle Auction until Tuesday, March 21   announced Bayonne Police Department Reschedules Vehicle Auction for Tuesday, March 21  Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis The Vehicle Auction is being held  at 9:30 a.m., at the Bayonne Police Pound, 330 Hook Road, in Bayonne. The vehicles that will be featured at the auction came into the possession of the Police Department as a result of abandonment or failure of owners to claim them.         The vehicles scheduled to be auctioned on Tuesday, March 21, will be available for inspection by prospective bidders on Monday, March 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Bayonne Police Pound.  

            This auction was scheduled originally for March 14, but was postponed, due to inclement winter weather on that date.

            The Police Department advises prospective buyers that all of the vehicles are in used condition.  They may be inoperable, may be missing parts, may require repairs, or may have defects that re not readily apparent.  Each item is being offered as is.  The minimum bid price shall be $200 per vehicle unless otherwise specified.  One vehicle listed for the auction has a minimum bid price of $6,000. An additional fee of $2 for a junk title certificate shall be charged for each vehicle being auctioned.

            Buyers must pay in full, either in cash or by certified check, at the time of sale.  Buyers must remove the purchased vehicles from the pound no later than three days after the date of sale.  The purchase of any vehicle not removed from the pound after three days following the sale may be declared void, and the monies paid by the successful bidder would be forfeited. 

            The Police Department expects thirty-five vehicles to be available at the auction. The Bayonne Police Department reserves the right to withdraw any of the vehicles from the sale.  This sale of motor vehicles bars all claims of interest in said motor vehicles except for the purchasers.  The Police Department reserves the right to reject any and all bids for the vehicles.  In the event of the last-minute addition of new items to the auction, any terms or conditions applying to their sale at auction would be announced. 

            The auction scheduled by the Police Department for March 21 is the third such event planned for 2017.  The Bayonne Police Department holds such auctions from time to time.  Other police auctions that may take place in 2017 would be announced as events may warrant.

Bayonne Public Library Holds Registration for events in Children's roomThe Bayonne Library will Hold Registration for Various Programs in the Children’s Room   was announced by Mayor Jimmy Davis, the Bayonne Public Library will have registration for Parent/Toddler Time and Preschool Storytime.  Registration for these programs will take place starting Monday, March 20, at 9:30 a.m., through Friday, March 24, or until these programs are filled, whichever comes first.  The library will start registration each day at 9:30 a.m.  All programs take place in the Children’s Room in the public library at 31st Street and Avenue C.  The Spring Session for these programs will begin on Tuesday, April 11, 2017.  Jersey City Prepares Blizzard ConditionsJERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the Office of Emergency Management, in coordination with the Department of Public Works, are preparing with an aggressive snow removal plan for blizzard conditions as Winter Storm Stella tracks toward our region, with the potential for up to 20 inches of snow.  DPW will be deploying approximately 64 crews throughout the duration of the storm.

Anticipating the Snowstorm, Bayonne Announces Temporary Changes in Parking, Sweeping, and Recycling

 

              Bayonne Announces Temporary Changes in Parking, Sweeping, and Recycling  Mayor Jimmy Davis announced several temporary changes In anticipation of Tuesday’s expected snowstorm, in parking, street-sweeping, and recycling.

                The City of Bayonne has announced that a No Parking policy will be in effect from midnight Monday night through midnight Tuesday night in several specified areas. During that time, there will be no parking allowed on the north side of 5thStreet from Orient to Broadway; no parking on the west side of Avenue C from 25th Street to 26th Street; no parking on the east side of Avenue C from 27th Street to 28th Street; no parking on the east side of Broadway from 5th Street to 50th Street; and no parking on the west side of Broadway from 5th Street to 40th Street.  

                Garbage pick-ups on Broadway will take place at midnight on Monday night, so please set out your garbage well in advance on Monday night.

                Beginning Tuesday morning, March 14, street-sweeping will be suspended until further notice.

                Beginning Tuesday, March 14, there will be no curbside pick-ups of televisions until further notice.

                On Tuesday, March 14, the citywide scrap metal pick-up will not take place.

BLIZZARD WATCH IN EFFECT; SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARED FOR HOBOKEN – PARKING PROHIBITED ON SNOW ROUTES AS OF MONDAY 8PM

The City of Hoboken Office of Emergency Management has declared a snow emergency in advance of a major winter storm forecast to impact our area. Parking will be prohibited on snow routes effective 8:00pm on Monday, March 13, 2017 until further notice. The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch from March 14 12:00am until March 15 12:00am. Heavy snow and blizzard conditions are possible with accumulations of 12 to 18 inches and wind gusts up to 50mph. Salt brine will be applied to streets prior to the storm.

Emergency Snow Routes
Vehicles parked on Snow Emergency Routes are subject to ticketing and towing as of 8:00pm on Monday, March 13. This is necessary to move police, fire, ambulances, and snow plows throughout Hoboken in time of emergency for the safety and welfare of all our citizens. Snow Emergency Routes in Hoboken are labeled with street signs that read “No Parking When Road Is Snow Covered.” Please note that as of this year, both sides of Observer Highway between Henderson Street and Hudson Street have been designated as snow emergency routes. Temporary No Parking signs will also be posted on 12th Street between Willow Avenue and Clinton Street, the north side of 13th Street west of Clinton Street, and Jefferson Street between 14th Street and 15th Street to accommodate buses and snow removal operations.  The Parade Route will begin at Lincoln Park to Journal Square via Ken-nedy Blvd. and end right on in front of PJRyans Squared located at 4PATH Plaza, Journal Square in Jersey City.

Hoboken Gathers To Support Veterans Yoga Project Fundraiser Set For March 12th

HOBOKEN, NJ (Feb. 27, 2017)—Over 100 residents and yoga practitioners are expected to come together March 12th to raise money and awareness to support veterans and their families through a Veterans Yoga Project (VYP) fundraiser to be held at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken.
 
Veterans yoga project The fundraiser offers participants a chance to meet Veterans Yoga Project founder Dr. Daniel Libby and learn how yoga and other VYP programs can help veterans and their families. Attendees can also enjoy a yoga class taught by veterans. Light refreshments will be served. All proceeds from the event will go to support the Veterans Yoga Project.
Support for the Veterans Yoga Project is critical. Since its inception, the VYP has helped thousands of veterans and their families reduce stress, ease pain and release traumatic imprints that negatively impact their lives through Mindful Yoga Therapy classes and multi-day retreats. The VYP also provides advanced training to yoga instructors so they can safely and effectively offer VYP services to veterans in their area.
 
The VYP’s work is seen has having a significant and positive impact on veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to depression and certain physical injuries. Research indicates that the group’s practices can quicken recovery from many physical and psychological disorders.  Participating veterans underscore the VYP’s benefits by reporting reduced stress, better sleep, enhanced concentration and the ability to better manage anger and aggression.
 
The March 12th event is the third annual VYP fundraiser to be held in Hoboken. The first came in 2014 in response to a request from the group to conduct fundraisers nationally during Veterans Gratitude Week. That year the Hoboken event raised more money than any of the almost 100 other fundraisers held nationally. The Hoboken program continued to lead fundraising efforts in 2015 and is expected to exceed its previous fundraising efforts this year thanks, in part, to support from Stevens, Starbucks, Bagels on the Hudson andThe Salak Group.

Dr. Libby is a licensed clinical psychologist, researcher, and yoga teacher specializing in the mindful integration of evidence-based psychotherapies and complementary and alternative medicine practices for the treatment of PTS(D) and other psychological and emotional distress in active-duty military and veterans.  As founder and Executive Director of Veterans Yoga Project, he has taught yoga and mindfulness to hundreds of veterans and active-duty military personnel in recovery from PTSD, addiction, and other service-related mental health conditions, and provides education, mentoring, and clinical supervision to yoga teachers in treatment settings.

Tam Terry is a Hoboken resident and an Experienced Registered Yoga Instructor (ERYT) with Yoga Alliance. Terry teaches locally at Devotion Yoga, specializing in vinyasa, restorative and therapeutic yoga disciplines. An international presenter with over 1000 hours of yoga teaching experience, she has a large base of private and corporate clientele in the NY/NJ metro area. Since 2004 she also has served as senior faculty for Bright Spirit Yoga, contributing to the development of over 225 yoga instructors.  Recently, Terry joined the Integrative Medical Team at Atlantic Health System, where she leads programs in stress management.

Helene Graff is a Hoboken resident and yoga teacher. She has completed the Veterans Yoga Training Program. Active in a variety of local volunteer efforts, Graff was instrumental in launching the first VYP fundraiser in Hoboken as well as the continued growth of the event.
