BAYONNE MAYOR DAVIS ANNOUNCES PLAN RESPOND AMAZON RFP

Bayonne and Amazon

Bayonne  Mayor James Davis announced recently that the City plans to respond to the request for proposals (RFP) issued by Amazon for the creation of the second headquarters in the United States.

Mayor Davis stated, “Given the fact that the City of Bayonne has over 200 acres of undeveloped land on the former Military Ocean Terminal-Bayonne (MOTBY), I believe we are uniquely positioned to respond to this request.” Bayonne’s ongoing transformation from a city of industry to a city of innovation and technology fits perfectly with Amazon’s objectives and, quite frankly, the City of Bayonne meets or exceeds every one of the logistical, cultural, communal and operational criteria set forth in Amazon’s RFP.  Simply stated, “I believe there are no other municipalities offering anything close to what Bayonne has to offer.”

Bayonne Mayor Davis Announces Plans To Respond Amazon RFP

Mayor James Davis announced today that
the City plans to respond to the request for proposals (RFP) issued by Amazon for the creation of the second headquarters in the United States.

Mayor Davis stated, “Given the fact that the City of Bayonne has over 200 acres of undeveloped land on the former Military Ocean Terminal-Bayonne (MOTBY), I believe
we are uniquely positioned to respond to this request.” Bayonne’s ongoing transformation from a city of industry to a city of innovation and technology fits perfectly with Amazon’s objectives and, quite frankly, the City of Bayonne meets or exceeds every one
of the logistical, cultural, communal and operational criteria set forth in Amazon’s RFP.  Simply stated, “I believe there are no other municipalities offering anything close to what Bayonne has to offer.”

The area being offered by Bayonne as the location for Amazon HQ2 sits on the Hudson River steps away from the Hudson Bergen Light Rail, adjacent to Route 440, within
easy reach of three major airports and two Amtrak train stations with a soon-to-be-finished direct access to the New Jersey Turnpike.  The area currently has plans for development of residential and retail space on a portion of the former base that would fit
in with Amazon’s goal of the headquarters being part of a thriving community. The area also offers great growth potential with many old warehouses and other abandoned industrial sites nearby.

Amazon’s current corporate headquarters is located in Seattle, Washington and its Chief Executive, Jeff Bezos, has announced that Amazon is looking to set up a second
corporate headquarters outside of Seattle.  “Amazon is looking for a city located in a metropolitan area of 1 million or more people,” Davis added, “with a diverse, educated population, ample recreational opportunities and quick access to mass transit, major
highways, international airports and major universities.  Sounds to me like Mr. Bezos wants to come to Bayonne.”

SINGERS WANTED: JOIN CANTIGAS WOMEN’S CHOIR
FOR THE 2017-2018 SEASON

HOBOKEN, N.J. – September 7, 2017 — Cantigas Women’s Choir seeks skilled and committed singers for its upcoming 2017-2018 season. The Hudson County women’s chorus brings a diverse community of women together  â€” from all ages and all backgrounds —  to explore the rich tradition of women’s singing and perform a broad spectrum of global music, both classic and contemporary.

The group rehearses on Thursday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mustard Seed School at 422 Willow Avenue in Hoboken. Auditions will be held on Thursdays in Hoboken in September.

Cantigas is seeking women of all vocal ranges. Sight reading skills are strongly desirable, but not required. Ability to sing in tune and blend in classical style is essential.

Interested singers should contact Artistic Director Joan Litman by e-mail at joanlitman@gmail.com.

Cantigas Women’s Choir, named after a medieval Spanish song form called a “cantiga,” is composed of 50 women of varying ages and backgrounds, and brings women of the community together to explore the rich tradition of women’s singing. The group performs a broad spectrum of global music. In addition to its own biannual concerts, the group performs for community groups, including at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton, Alaris Health at Hamilton Park in Jersey City, and on behalf of the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City. Litman founded the group in September 2002.

Joan Isaacs Litman, founding Artistic Director of Cantigas Women’s Choir, has been a music educator and choral director in the New York metropolitan area for many years. With a longing to stimulate interest and appreciation of less understood cultures, Joan has researched traditional songs of the Middle East. In recent years, she has taught and guest conducted in Spain, Syria, Lebanon, Japan, Hong Kong, Argentina, and the Dominican Republic. For many years, Joan served on the music faculty of the United Nations International School in Manhattan. She is presently Artist-in-Residence at the Mustard Seed School, where she is also a founder and Music Director Emerita.
