Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis and Entire City Council Wins 2nd Term

Mayor James Davis and his City Council running mates Thomas Cotter, (1st. Ward) Sal Gullace, (2nd Ward) Gary LaPelusa (3rd Ward) Sharon Ashe Nadrowski (City Council President) and Councilman-at Large Juan Perez have won a 2nd term in Bayonne’s Municipal election held on May 8th.

Davis ran against former Bayonne Assemblyman and Safety Director Jason O’Donnell.

New Jersey Turnpike 14A interchange Construction Schedule

The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:

Toll Plaza
East side (entering the Turnpike) renovation of existing Toll Utility Building continues.
Ramps between the Toll Plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE)
No work planned.
Avenue E / Proposed Roundabout
During the week of 05/07/18 through 05/21/18, daytime lane closures will be utilized for clean up work between 53rd Street and 50th Street. This work will be supported by Bayonne Police as needed.
Connector Bridge (Bridge from the Toll Plaza to Port Jersey Boulevard)
Pedestrian usage of the bridge for access to and from Port Jersey Boulevard continues to be prohibited.
Route 440 and Pulaski Street Intersection / Jughandle
Continue traffic signal construction on Route 440.
During the week of 05/07/18 through 05/21/18, nighttime nighttime lane closures will be utilized for clean up work within the Jughandle and on 440. This work will be supported by Bayonne Police as needed.
Ramp Area East of Route 440
Continue traffic signal construction on Port Jersey Boulevard.
During the week of 05/07/18 through 05/21/18, clean up work will continue. This work will be supported by Bayonne Police as needed.

Guitarist Rich Casella Bayonne Musical Monday’s May 7th

Mayor Jimmy Davis and the City Council announced that Bayonne’s Musical Mondays at the Museum concert series is continuing on Monday, May 7, at 6:30
p.m., with music by guitarist Rich Casella. He is the founder and teacher at the Guitar Den, a local guitar school. Mr. Casella and his band have played at clubs and bars throughout the region.

The location of all concerts in the series is the Bayonne Community Museum, 229 Broadway, at the corner of 9th Street. The doors will open for the concert at 6:00 p.m. Each concert event provides free entertainment and light refreshments. The concert series is sponsored by the City of Bayonne and Bayonne’s Urban Enterprise Zone/Special Improvement District.

The concert with Rich Casella on May 7 is the final Musical Mondays concert this season.

First Annual Bayonne Food Truck Festival

Bayonne’s Avenue E between 22nd and 24th street is the site for Bayonne’s First Annual Food Truck Fest hosted by Jersey Girl Productions.The event which runs from 12 noon to 6pm Saturday, April 28th has many food trucks with so.ething the entire family will enjoy.Plus live entertainment.Here are some photos from the event.

 Four talented actors transform themselves into a cobra, tailor bird, muskrat and mongoose in THE GARDEN OF RIKKI TIKKI TAVI, the funny and endearing play by Y York now on stage at the Mile Square Theatre in Hoboken.  The show opened Fri, April 13 and will be performed twice a day on Saturdays and Sundays through May 6. Free conference to examine issues facing LGBTQIA community

 

April 17, 2018 / Jersey City, NJ – As issues facing the LGBTQIA community evolve, individuals learn to embrace self-expression, foster inclusiveness, and unify communities through understanding and acceptance.

On Friday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Hudson County Community College (HCCC) will present the Third Annual LGBTQIA Conference. Entitled “Back 2 Basics,” the conference will be held in the HCCC Library Building – 71 Sip Ave in Jersey City, and will address a multitude of topics facing the LGBTQIA community.

Part of the College’s celebration of LBGTQIA Month, “Back 2 Basics” is presented by the Office of Student Activities and the HCCC Georgia Brooks Stonewall Project. The conference is open to students, faculty, and the general public. Tickets are free, but registration is preferred.

Several workshops are designed to engage participants in the LBGTQIA community and encourage others, especially individuals who are part of the historically marginalized voices. Bayonne Health Fair Tuesday, April 24

Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that he is co-sponsoring a health fair with Bayonne Medical Center on Tuesday, April 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The health fair will take place in the Council Chambers in City Hall at 630 Avenue C, which is located between 27th and 28th Streets.   The fair will include free health screenings, health education, and assistance with health insurance.

Mayor Davis said, “The City of Bayonne believes in promoting the health of our residents.  I would like to encourage people to come by on Tuesday to take advantage of the services offered at the health fair.  I would like to thank Bayonne Medical Center for co-sponsoring this important event.”

The free health screenings will cover cholesterol; blood pressure; breast examinations; A1C/blood glucose; and peripheral arterial disease. 

Health education programs will cover diet and nutrition; stroke prevention education and screening; and general health. 

Doctors will participate in the health fair, and will be on hand to answer questions and administer health screenings.

Assistance with questions and answers about health insurance will be available.
