LA FITNESS TO OPEN 45,000 S.F. SPORTS CLUB AT HARTZ MOUNTAIN’S HARMON MEADOW DEVELOPMENT IN SECAUCUS

SECAUCUS, NJ – January 6, 2009 – Hartz Mountain Industries Inc. has announced that LA Fitness, a privately-owned fitness company based in Irvine, California, will open a 45,000 square foot Sports Club in the late fall of 2009 at 450 Harmon Meadow Boulevard, within the mixed use Harmon Meadow development in Secaucus.

            The new Sports Club’s location, at the intersection of Harmon Meadow Boulevard and Park Plaza Drive, is adjacent to a 1,000-space parking garage and is easily accessible to the office tenants and neighborhoods surrounding Harmon Meadow.

            The state-of-the-art Sports Club will feature full court basketball, a three-lane lap pool, a whirlpool and locker rooms, as well as separate aerobic, group exercise and stationary bike studios. These amenities will surround a full array of equipment, including over 75 pieces of the latest-generation cardio equipment, select drive circuit training, and free weight areas. Trained instructors will lead more than 60 classes per week covering every level and degree of intensity from yoga to fast-paced aerobics. Babysitting will also be available.            

            Founded in 1984, LA Fitness currently operates over 280 clubs in 17 states and Canada. The new LA Fitness Sports Club will be New Jersey’s eighth, and the first to be located in the Meadowlands region. The building will be will be extensively renovated, including the addition of a 3,500 square foot mezzanine solely for the cardio equipment.

Maxx, Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us, and we broke ground on the state’s first Kerasotes ShowPlace 14-plex stadium-style theatre to be open in Fall, 2009,” said Emanuel Stern, President and Chief Operating Officer of Hartz Mountain. “The addition of LA Fitness’ top-quality state of the art Sports Club creates another major amenity for our existing office tenants and surrounding communities and we are confident that the facility will attract more corporations to lease office space in Harmon Meadow with such great amenities and ample free parking”

            Constructed in 1984, Harmon Meadow was a breakthrough in suburban development – a mixed-use development three miles from Manhattan that attracted the region’s best office, retail and restaurant tenants over the years. New retailers and restaurants in Harmon Meadow include Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Marshalls, AC Moore, HomeGoods, Bonefish Grill, Red Lobster, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Cheeseburger In Paradise, Chili’s and Starbucks.

            Further, Toys ‘R’ Us & Babies ‘R’ Us, a combination superstore, and TJ Maxx recently opened at the newly redeveloped Mill Creek Mall site in Harmon Meadow. Sports Authority will open at the Mill Creek Mall, adjacent to T.J. Maxx, this Spring. Raymour & Flanagan has taken over the space formerly occupied by Linens ‘n Things and anticipates its grand opening in June of 2009.

            In addition, Harmon Meadow will have a new Kerasotes ShowPlace Theatre, a 14-screen, state-of-the-art stadium style theatre expected to open Fall 2009 that will feature 2,752 seats. It will be the first Kerasotes Showplace theatre to come to New Jersey.

            Renovations at the center of Harmon Meadow, the Plaza Courtyard, ended in August of 2008. The Plaza courtyard is now a picturesque pedestrian walkway and park surrounded by cafes, stores, restaurants, offices, the Holiday Inn and other hotels.
