JOE BATAAN JOINS SOUL GENERATION & PRIME

joebataan-circa2005.jpgIf it’s the day after Thanksgiving, it’s the Miller Branch Library program of Live Entertainment, and if you are 21 years or older, a valid Jersey City library card is your admission to hear the best ‘70s soul music this side of the Hudson.
On Friday evening, November 28, from 8 to 10:30 p.m. at the Miller Branch Library, 489 Bergen Avenue in Jersey City, homegrown Soul Generation and PRIME, and ‘newcomer’ (to the annual line up) Joe Bataan perform the songs that made them famous. This is the third consecutive performance by Joe Bataan, known as the King of Latin R&B, at Miller’s Live Entertainment.

Soul Generation, featuring Cliff Perkins, the lead singer/choreographer/band leader known for producing music revues locally, is one of the Jersey City soul bands that stand out for its resourcefulness and longevity in popularity.
PRIME harmonizes in intricate and sweet tones, proving its name, an acronym for Perfect / Rhythm / Ingenuity / Music / Equality, and worth listening to, year after year. In fact, last year (2007), PRIME celebrated its 20th anniversary performing at the Miller Branch day-after-Thanksgiving concerts. Soul Generation joined them 10 years later.
And then, there’s Joe Bataan. A colorful character with lots of creativity and risk in his musical choices and performances, Bataan earned his nickname, King of Latin R&B, by being the first to incorporate the rhythms of the street in mainstream Latin dance music, making them instant hits.
