The Jersey City Free Public Library now has expanded its digital services, which currently include the on-demand video service, MyLibraryDV, with the addition of download audio books, eBooks, music and video. Library cardholders can check out and download digital titles anytime, anywhere by visiting Users may browse the growing collection of best-selling and classic titles. To check out a digital title, users will need a valid library card, personal computer, and Internet connection. Once downloaded, digital titles can be enjoyed on the computer or transferred to supported mobile devices. Many audio titles can be burned to CD to enjoy in the car. At the end of the 10-day lending period, titles will automatically expire and are returned to the digital collection. There are never late fees or damaged items.
“It’s important for a library in an urban environment to stay ahead of the curve, technologically speaking, since many of our patrons depend upon the free services of our library,†said Library Director Priscilla Gardner.
“New technologies and services constantly are being developed for libraries, and the library’s MIS Department continually is on the lookout to offer our patrons the very best,†added James Morley, president of the Jersey City Free Public Library Board of Trustees.
Patrons will need to install the appropriate software, including the OverDrive Media Console for audio and video titles, which requires Windows 98SE and above. To read eBook titles, patrons will download the free reader software for Adobe eBooks and Mobipocket eBooks.
