Bayonne officials have reported that Sunday evenings fire in Bayonne has claimed the life of one resident and two others were injured.

Responding to a blaze at 6:15 that started at 18 E. 16th street, the two-story home was billowing with heavy smoke and fire according to Deputy Chief William Bartos.

Bayonne Medical Center received a female resident who was taken from the first floor and later died from her injuries while two other 2nd floor residents also transported to Bayonne Medical Center by McCabe Ambulance suffered injuries.

According to Deputy Chief Bartos Bayonne Firefighters saved nearby structures on 16th street from the fire spreading by working quickly and professionally, putting out the fire within 45 minutes of it starting.

As reported by Hudson Daily Voice”The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bayonne Fire Department, the Bayonne Police Department, and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.”
