Cailin Brodel, has become Bayonne, New Jersey’s first female fire figher in the Fire Departments 108 year History.
Firefighter Brodel was on hand today at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of Bayonne New Jersey’s first new firehouse in over 40 years a 3.5 million dollar state of the art firehouse which will service and protect the Bayonne community for years to come.
Bayonne  Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has advised the City of Bayonne concerning the latest developments in the Bayonne Bridge construction project.
The assembly of the gantry is 90% complete. This gantry will carry the pre-cast roadway slabs to the new piers. The piers are the columns that will hold up the roadway. The crane height will start at 120 feet and then grow to 300 feet once it gets closer to the Kill Van Kull. The gantry base is at 6th Street and travels the entire length of the bridge. Sometime this fall, another crane will be in service working on the south end of Bayonne near 1st Street.

On September 21, Davis and other city residents plan to do it for real.
Beginning this fall, Jersey City will feature a new community chorus, “North River Sing,†the first chorus in New Jersey dedicated to American musical theatre. Conceived by Jersey City resident Liz Morrill, North River Sing will be directed by Meg Zervoulis,, currently resident music director and arranger at Paper Mill Playhouse.” The name “North River Sing†derives from an old nautical moniker for the part of the Hudson River that lies between New York City and New Jersey.

Area Street Closures Take Effect Tuesday, August 19th
JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the Municipal Council announced today that street closures as part of the plan to convert a portion of Newark Avenue into a pedestrian plaza to enhance the City’s vibrant downtown commercial and cultural district will go into effect next week.
Beginning Tuesday, August 19, 2014, Newark Avenue from Grove Street to Barrow Street and Erie Street from Newark Avenue to Bay Street will be closed from 3 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday and between 12 a.m. and midnight, Saturday and Sunday for the preservation of the public’s safety and welfare at the newly created pedestrian plaza. Newly elected Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis accepts checkÂ
 U.S. Senator Robert Menendez visited the Bayonne Fire Department to announce a federal grant in the amount of $295,000.  The funding will enable the Fire Department to purchase new turnout gear and to handle high-angle rescues at tall buildings and industrial sites.  Mayor Jimmy Davis and Fire Chief Gregory Rogers joined Senator Menendez for the check presentation.

The funeral for Jersey City Police
Officer Melvin Santiago on Friday offered a somber pause, a reflective respite from a very tense week for law enforcement and the public at large.
The 23-year-old was laid to rest at St. Aloysius Church on West Side Avenue, mourned by grieving family and friends, his fellow officers, and elected officials. Also, hundreds of officers from locations as far away as Philadelphia lined the street outside when his casket was brought into the church.
