NEW  BAYONNE MAYOR GETS RIGHT TO WORK TRYING TO SOLVE HIS CITY’S PROBLEMS                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Bayonne Mayor Mark Smith announced that he participated in a meeting of the New Jersey Urban Mayors on municipal issues on November 12 at the Gateway Hilton in Newark. Smith said, “The session covered a variety of topics important to the people of Bayonne, including the economy, housing, public safety, education, and funding for transportation and infrastructure. At this time of difficulty in our national and regional economy, I wanted to get the latest information available to help our community. Bayonne and other New Jersey cities must become engines of economic growth.” Mayors Cory Booker  of Newark and Jerry Healy of Jersey City were the hosts and principal speakers at the event.

 On Friday evening, November 28, from 8 to 10:30 p.m. at the Miller Branch Library, 489 Bergen Avenue in Jersey City, homegrown Soul Generation and PRIME, and ‘newcomer’ (to the annual line up) Joe Bataan perform the songs that made them famous. This is the third consecutive performance by Joe Bataan, known as the King of Latin R&B, at Miller’s Live Entertainment.

 Sharing Place volunteers, Minerva Alvarado-Metzler, a systems analyst for McCarter & English, and Paul LaCourtna, a train conductor for PATH, distribute coats, hats and gloves at the Sharing Place, a food pantry located at 440 Hoboken Avenue. The coats were donated by The Provident Bank, which collected new and gently used coats in its 83 branches. Provident is continuing the coat drive through November 8. The next distribution of coats and food will be on Saturday, November 22 from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.

With 5 candidates vying for the Mayor’s seat in this special election, Public Safety Director Mark Smith won with over 8,000 votes. Defeating former municiapal Judge Patrick Conghan with over 5,000 votes and also beating candidates Former Mayor Richard Rutkowski, Bayonne City Clerk Robert Sloan and Robert Gokecki zoning commissioner.

 The scene is a small Southern town where Colonel and Christine Penmark live with their daughter, Rhoda. Little Rhoda Penmark is the evil queen of the story.      The First Annual Susan G. Komen Restaurants for the Cureâ„¢ was held September 29 to October 6 to benefit the fight against breast cancer. With 30 participating restaurants, the event was able to raise close to $4,000 to donate to the North Jersey Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.Â
 Event attendees were able to enjoy different dishes the restaurants prepared especially for the event as well as signature pink drinks made with event sponsor, Perfect Vodka. Restaurant goers were given scratch-off cards at each restaurant to enter to win prizes including Continental Airline tickets, a flat screen TV and restaurant gift certificates. The money raised from the event will benefit breast cancer support, research and development. Senator Barack Obama captured 67.5 percent of the votes cast by 264,000 New Jersey students from 677 schools statewide and won the Presidential race in the Garden State’s 2008 National Student/Parent Mock Election.
Voting took place in New Jersey schools from October 20 through the end of the school day on October 30.
Senator John McCain received 29.7 percent of the votes in New Jersey. All other New Jersey candidates received 2.8 percent.
