Beware of Dietary Supplements – They Aren’t Always What They Seem

diet-supplement— Dietary supplements can contain contaminants, be addictive and interact poorly with medications —

Steven Marcus, Executive and Medical Director

Newark, N.J. – Jan. 13, 2011 –

Dietary supplements are becoming more and more popular each year. According to the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, a 2007 survey found that 17.7 percent of American adults used dietary supplements other than vitamins and minerals every year.1 A more recent survey found that statistic has grown to more than half of the U.S. adult population,2 and in 2009 Americans spent $26 billion on dietary supplements.3Consumers must be aware that dietary supplements are regulated differently than drug and food products, exposing users to potential dangers to their health.

“The evidence supports the fact that there is an increase annually in U.S. adults incorporating dietary supplements into their diets, which can be good and bad news,” says Dr. Steven Marcus, executive and medical director of NJPIES. “For some, dietary supplements will improve one’s health, but consumers need to heed warnings and be aware of all of the ingredients in the dietary supplement they take, because some ingredients can result in side effects that can cause serious harm, from diarrhea to severe organ damage.” Continue reading Beware of Dietary Supplements – They Aren’t Always What They Seem

Keeping Main Roads Clear of Vehicles Makes Clean-up Easier & Less Costly

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and the Jersey City Office of Emergency Management are asking motorists not park on city emergency routes in light of the forecasted snow storm beginning tonight into Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Tuesday evening through Wednesday night for the Jersey City metropolitan area. Snow is expected to begin today, Tuesday, January 11, mainly after 8pm, and could be heavy at times with expected snowfalls to be between 12 and 20 inches. Meteorologists are also predicting strong winds that coupled with the snowfall are expected to result in near zero visibility for motorists.

“We are urging residents to eliminate all non-essential driving and to avoid parking on emergency routes if possible,” said Mayor Healy. “This will greatly assist us in the clean-up of this storm if we receive the amount of snow currently forecasted.” Continue reading Jersey City OEM is Asking Motorists to Not Park on Emergency Routes During Expected Snow Storm

New Jersey Lottery 04 08 15 -25-47-42 Winning Numbers of Mega Millions

lottery-ticket1What was your plans for the lottery money had you won the big game?

That seemed to be the question on everyone’s mind today after one of Mega Millions biggest jackpots was won by two lucky tickets winners. One from Idaho and the other from Washington. Washington, what Washington I began to wonder? They didn’t say Washington State did they mean Washington DC. Is that why I saw our President on the front page of the New York Daily News in flip flops and shorts. Had he purchased a lottery ticket and won the $355,000,000 million dollar jackpot. OK sir, if you did win please put it back towards our deficit and now we are only about 8 trillion shy. Continue reading New Jersey Lottery 04 08 15 -25-47-42 Winning Numbers of Mega Millions

Eating Healthy for Two

 Breakfast Fruit Turnovers

(Family Features) What you eat not only affects you, it could affect your unborn child.
Of the four million women who give birth in the US each year, some 3,000 babies are born with neural tube defects, which include certain birth defects of the brain and spinal cord. Folic acid is a critical element needed for proper spinal cord development during the first three weeks of pregnancy. Because this is often before a woman even knows she’s pregnant, it’s important for women of child-bearing age to follow a healthy lifestyle and to include folic acid as part of her diet. “River View Observer Best Pick Developers for Jersey City.”

Brothers Eric Silverman and Paul Silverman have been developing real estate in Jersey City since 1981, but they are not ordinary developers. While others are making a splash building modern skyscrapers and luxury condos on the waterfront, the Silverman brothers have spent the last three decades quietly transforming former warehouses into mixed-use buildings, schools into residences and abandoned storefronts into fashionable shops throughout Jersey City.

The brothers founded SILVERMAN, now the foremost developer of mixed-use residential buildings, historic landmarks and creative retail destinations in Jersey City, and today serve as a major engine behind the city’s revitalization. The company provides affordable and market-rate housing options to the greater community of Jersey City while building family oriented neighborhoods and supporting local retailers.
