Bayonne’s Interactive History and Heritage Trail

City officials and educators visited a stop at Dennis P. Collins Park on Bayonne’s new history and heritage trail.  Tourists, students, and local pedestrians can learn more about Bayonne and the history of particular sites by scanning the QR code shown in the photo.  Bayonne High School students researched the history of various sites and produced a local booklet.  This program is made possible by a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, and is administered by the Hudson County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.  Pictured left to right: Dan Ward, Director of Social Studies, Bayonne Board of Education; Mayor Jimmy Davis; Neil Carroll III, First Ward Council Member and Social Studies teacher at Washington Community School; and Kelly Sweeney, Social Studies teacher, Bayonne High School.

Bayonne Vaccination Volunteer Honored By City and County

Honoring a local vaccine volunteer:  The City of Bayonne and the County of Hudson are honoring Emilia Cruz, RN for her service as a volunteer vaccinator.

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the County of Hudson and the City of Bayonne are honoring Emilia Cruz, RN, for her service as volunteer vaccinator at Bayonne Medical Center.  Mayor Davis said, “Emilia Cruz called the City Hall nurses in the very start of the COVID vaccination clinic to offer her assistance on her time off to volunteer giving vaccines to Bayonne residents.  She works just about every day she has off helping in the clinic, putting her expertise to work for the people of Bayonne.  Emilia is truly worthy of being honored.”

Mayor Davis has informed us of the passing of an 76yr male, who also tested positive for COVID-19.  This passing is the 81st in Bayonne since the beginning of the pandemic.  Mayor Davis extends his condolences, on behalf of all of Bayonne, to the family of this man.

Under the direction of Mayor Davis, OEM provides weekly updates on the status of Bayonne in relation to the COVID-19 Health Emergency.

BAYONNE Dine Out and Shop Out Event on Broadway Set for Thursday, September 24

Between 18th to 25th Streets

          Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that a Dine Out and Shop Out Event on Broadway has been scheduled for Thursday, September 24, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Broadway will be closed to traffic from 18th Street to 25th Street, in order to accommodate the event.  Participating restaurants will set up tables, chairs, and tents on the street.  Participating stores will have sidewalk sales. The event will feature live music.   Additional details will be announced.

COVID-19 UPDATE 9/10/2020

Under the direction of Mayor Davis, OEM provides weekly updates on the status of Bayonne in relation to the COVID-19 Health Emergency.

Bayonne Residents CURRENTLY Positive – 20*

The number above reflects the Bayonne residents that are CURRENTLY COVID-19 Positive.

OEM UPDATE:  To date, 1,363 Bayonne residents have tested positive for COVID-19, regardless of where that test was given. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 76 Bayonne residents have passed away due to Coronavirus-related illnesses.  The Bayonne Department of Health continues to advise residents that have recently taken a COVID-19 test to be sure to answer their phones for our Contact Tracers and Dept of Health Staff.  These conversations are vital in helping to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.

Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the Bayonne Office On Aging will host its annual Medicare open enrollment pre-screening sessions. They will take place on select Tuesdays and Thursdays in September and October, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 630 Avenue C.  City Hall is located on Avenue C between 27th and 28th Streets. Any Bayonne senior coming to any of the pre-screening sessions must make an appointment prior to arriving.  All participants must wear masks and gloves, in order to comply with Coronavirus guidelines.  They must also maintain social distancing during the appointments.  They must sign a disclaimer.  All participants must be prepared to complete business with all of the necessary documents and have the ability to communicate with someone independently.

SHOP-RITE OF BAYONNE TO HOLD DRIVE FOR BAYONNE FOOD BANK SEPTEMBER 12 TO SEPTEMBER 18

Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that Inserra Shop-Rite of Bayonne will be holding an in-store food drive for the Bayonne Food Bank this month.  The drive will begin on Saturday, September 12, and will last through Friday, September 18. The store is located at 26th Street and Avenue C in Bayonne.

Under the direction of Mayor Davis, OEM provides weekly updates on the status of Bayonne in relation to the COVID-19 Health Emergency.

Mayor Davis has advised us that an 82yr male Bayonne resident has recently passed away from Coronavirus-related illness.  The Mayor extends his sympathy, on behalf of the entire city, to the family of our late neighbor.

BOARD OF ED UPDATE: Open parking for residents in all Bayonne Public Schoolyards is ending.  All vehicles must be removed from schoolyards by September 1, 2020.

Mayor Jimmy Davis and the Division of Recreation have announced the remaining evenings scheduled for the 2020 Summer Sounds by the Bay music series at DiDomenico-16th Street Park.  A new date has been added in September, due to a postponement in August.
