JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop presents his fifth annual July 4th festival on the Hudson Waterfront to celebrate Independence Day. The carnival-style spectacle, branded 50STAR FIRE SHOW, spans the entire Greater New York City Area and will feature a headline concert performance by Snoop Dogg on the Private Internet Access stage in front of a 200,000 person audience lining the Hudson River Waterfront and area surrounding Harborside. The all-day music, food, technology and entertainment experience boasts views of the New York City skyline, and will become the

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop announced today a new program to use local clergy members to assist residents who experience violence and other difficult situations. The program is supported by a $10,000 grant from the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.

“Other cities nationally and in New Jersey are successfully using chaplains to provide timely and compassionate response,” said Mayor Fulop. “We care when our residents are hurting, and the Chaplains provide support to help people at a time of crisis or loss. Several Events Taking Place all this Month to Celebrate Older Americans Month, Ranging from the Upcoming Health & Fitness Day to Farmers’ Market Vouchers and Other Programs to Promote Healthy Living in the Golden Years

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the Department of Health and Human Services are celebrating national Older Americans Month during the month of May.  While several events have been taking place throughout the month, the signature event is National Senior Health & Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 31st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Berry Lane Park.

“Celebrating our seniors is something we do everyday, but during the month of May we take special occasion to honor and recognize their contributions to our city and our country,” said Mayor Fulop.  “We know that our seniors have made our city what it is today, so we are constantly working to provide them with recreation, healthcare and other services to enrich their golden years and say thank you.”

 

The Senior Health & Fitness Day event, organized in partnership with Congressman Donald Payne’s Office, features a line dancing class at 10:30a.m., Zumba at 11:30a.m., and Yoga/Fitness at 12:30p.m.  There will be wellness vans from both Barnabas Health and CarePoint for various health screenings.  Other vendors include Wellcare, Metropolitan Health, and the Diabetes Foundation.  Contact 201-547-5750 for free group transportation.  Any senior who pre-registers for this event will receive a boxed lunch, free of charge.

JERSEY CITY’S Host 2nd Annual Great Jersey City Clean Up April 29th

Great Jersey City Clean-up Citywide Cleanup Mobilizes Hundreds of Volunteers to Remove Litter and Garbage from Neighborhoods and Parks as part of Earth Day Activities

Fulop announced today that Jersey City’s Department of Public Works in partnership with Keep Jersey City Beautiful, will host a second annual citywide clean up – the Great Jersey City Clean Up. The Great Jersey City Clean Up will be held at locations citywide from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 29th, 2017.

Revenue Sharing Plan Comes After Fulop Administration Delivers Four Years of No Tax Increase, Sets Fiscal House in Order; EO Uses Rutgers Projections for Impact PILOT Projects Have on Public School System

 

Mayor Steven M. Fulop announced that today he signed an executive order that will dedicate 10 percent of the revenue from future tax abatements to the Jersey City Public Schools, with the revenue being shared through an unrestricted transfer of funds at the end of each calendar year.

“For the past four years we worked on correcting the fiscal mismanagement and structural deficit that we inherited from past administrations, and were able to deliver four consecutive years of no tax increases and three consecutive credit upgrades,” said Mayor Fulop.  “With the city’s fiscal house on solid footing, we believe now is the right time set the standard that tax abated properties contribute to the board of education to relieve the burden on all of our city taxpayers.” Continue reading Mayor Fulop Signs Executive Order Dedicating 10 Percent of Future Tax Abatement Payments to Jersey City Public Schools →

Recycling Education Campaign to Begin

Focus is on Multi-Unit Buildings & Vacant Properties; Goal is for Cleaner Streets, Increased Recycling and Improved Quality of Life Across the City

Jersey City clean up JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the newly-formed United for Clean Streets, announced today amendments to the city’s solid waste ordinance that will increase fines for violators, specifically repeat offenders and multi-unit property owners who litter, allow debris and garbage to build up on their property, or who don’t properly recycle.  The minimum and maximum fines for the egregious act of illegal dumping is also being increased as the administration works to create cleaner streets and improved quality of life citywide.

Mile Square Theatre’s Playwright-in-Residence Debuts new Solo Show

 A life in the theater can be a wonderful journey if he or she sticks it out long enough and for actor and playwright Joseph Gallo, his long day’s journey in the theater continues to be mined with opportunities.  He just had two of his plays published by River City Books; and as playwright-in-residence at Mile Square Theatre (MST) in Hoboken, Gallo is about to debut his newest one-man show, LONG GONE DADDY directed by MST artistic director Chris O’Connor. Performances begin July 20 and run through August 7 in the company’s new theater on the corner of 14th & Clinton.

 

 

Playwright Joe Gallo Prior to this, Gallo workshopped his play Two-Man Kidnapping Rule at MST. It was later produced by the New Ohio Theatre in New York, and published in Smith & Kraus’s anthology 2012 Best Men’s Stage Monologues and Scenes. As a solo writer/performer Gallo appeared in the original production of his one-man show My Italy Story at Penguin Rep in Stony Point, NY, which later had its debut Off-Broadway at the 47th Street Theatre in New York, starring Danny Mastrogiorgio (“…a compelling page turner.”—The New York Times).
