JERSEY CITY, NJ, January 27, 2017 – Meredith Burns has been named Executive Director of Art House Productions effective February 13. A Jersey City resident and volunteer for Art House INKubator, Burns joins the organization from Brooklyn’s New Voices Middle School, where she has led an arts-based, after-school program for 200+ children since 2013. She succeeds Christine Goodman, who is stepping down 15 years after founding the highly regarded nonprofit arts organization to spend more time with her family. Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet re-imagined with Jersey City flavor.  Join Nimbus Dance Works, Jersey City’s acclaimed professional dance company for the 7th year of its annual holiday tradition: Jersey City Nutcracker. Jersey City Nutcracker tells the story of two children’s urban holiday adventure leading them through fantasy, adversity and celebration and, along the way, teaching them lessons about friendship and community. Dark-eyed women in traditional clothing are painted against a backdrop of bands of colors filled with rows of tiny fish, elephants and other imagery of India. They are the paintings of artist Nupur Nishith, a resident of Bayonne who moved to the U.S. a little over five years ago with an MBA and several years of working for a bank. Instead of following a banking career, though, Nishith decided to follow her passion for art.

You can see it from Rt. 139 feeding into the Holland Tunnel or catch it from downtown Jersey City as you head into Hoboken. David Bowie’s image 18-stories high on the side of the Cast Iron Lofts in Jersey City, painted by international muralist Eduardo Kobra.  Bowie passed-away January 10th of this year, but his music and artistry live on throughout the world; and Kobra’s mural is now part of the Jersey City landscape, an urban landmark and the latest addition to the Jersey City Mural Arts Program.

On Fri, Nov. 4, Mayor Steven M. Fulop, members of the City Council, local real estate developers, and local artists welcomed Kobra to Jersey City and thanked him for painting the dazzling, eye-catching image of David Bowie. Mayor Fulop held the press conference on the building’s 5th floor deck where visitors could get an up-close look at the mural, and meet and take pictures with Kobra who spent the past few weeks painting from a scaffold hanging 180-feet off the side of the Cast Iron Lofts hi-rise on Jersey Avenue.   Continue reading KOBRA & BOWIE Int’l Muralist KOBRA paints 18-story David Bowie in Jersey City →

JERSEY CITY – Fresh off setting the Guinness Book of World Records for the “largest spray paint mural by a team” with his Rio 2016 Olympic Games-inspired “Ethnicities,” internationally-renowned, Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra is bringing his unique vision and talent to Jersey City.

In her email address she’s “Bondgyrl” who, with her dad, has seen every 007 flick ever made. Away from the computer, she’s Theda Sandiford, a mixed-media artist and lover of found objects. JC Mural Arts Program Clarifications

Jersey City Mayor Steven M. Fulop’s office, which started the Jersey City mural arts program in 2013, clarified certain points about the program after it was mentioned in a recent story that ran in the River View Observer.

  1. The mural program was started and continues to be executed through the Mayor’s Office under the direction of Brooke Hansson, and all inquiries regarding the program should be directed to her at bhansson@jcnj.org.
  1. The murals program started out as an anti-graffiti project and continues to be an anti-graffiti project which is how it is 100% funded and why it has a graffiti vandal community service component.
  1. The name of the mural program was never changed. The brochures are a street gallery map of the mural arts program.

The Jersey City Art & Studio Tour (formerly known as the Artists’ Studio Tour) began 25 years ago when a local newspaper joined forces with several Jersey City artists. What started as a tour of 50 or so studios and public art exhibitions with opening night parties of Blimpie sandwiches and jugs of Gallo – has become a huge city-wide event sponsored by the city of Jersey City.
