Bayonne Holds Inauguration, Festivites, and Fireworks Set for July 1, 2022

The Municipal Inauguration is scheduled for the Bayonne High School Auditorium at 3:30 p.m.  The auditorium is located at 30th Street and Avenue A. At that event, Mayor Jimmy Davis, Council Member At-Large Loyad Booker, Jr., Council Member At-Large Juan M. Perez, First Ward Council Member Neil J. Carroll III, Second Ward Council Member Jacqueline Weimmer, and Third Ward Council Member Gary LaPelusa, Sr. will take their oaths of office.  The inaugural ceremonies will also feature speeches by elected officials, prayers by local clergy, and musical entertainment.

Weather permitting, the festivities will continue at the lower level of DiDomenico-16th Street at 6:00 p.m.  The park is located on West 16th Street between Avenue A and Newark Bay. The celebration at the park will include free children’s rides, musical entertainment, and fireworks.  There will also be pay-as-you-go food trucks. The food trucks and children’s rides will be available beginning at 6:00 p.m.  The rides will shut down at 8:00 p.m.  The food trucks will continue operating throughout the evening. Music will be provided by Just Jammin’ from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Just Jammin’ is an all-female New Jersey band that specializes in music from the 1960’s and later decades. Garden State Fireworks will launch fireworks at darkness or approximately 9:15 p.m.  A safety perimeter will be established around the fireworks.

For the evening events at the park on July 1, chairs will not be provided.  Please bring your own chairs.

Due to the large crowds that are expected for the fireworks, residents are urged to park in municipal parking lots located around the Broadway business district.  Shuttle bus service will be provided from Church Lane and East 24th Street to DiDomenico-16th Street Park between 6:00 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.  Return shuttle bus service from the park will take place immediately after the fireworks and will return passengers to Church Lane.

The swearing-in ceremony and the Inaugural Mass will take place rain or shine.

The Inaugural Mass, the swearing-in ceremonies, and the celebration in DiDomenico-16th Street Park are all open to the public.  Taken together, all of the events involve mobilizing several municipal departments.  In the interests of efficiency, all of the events have been scheduled for the same day, weather permitting.

In the event of inclement weather, after 3:00 p.m., please call 201-471-7590, or visit www.leaguelineup.com/bayonnerec, or view the City of Bayonne’s Facebook page to check on the status of the evening celebration.

If inclement weather were to occur, the fireworks and celebration at the DiDomenico-16th Street Park would be moved to Wednesday, July 6, with the same hours and shuttle transportation information listed above.  Garden State Fireworks is available to do a show on the back-up date of July 6.
