Mayor Fulop Strengthens Safety Mandates, Introducing New Legislation Following Devastating Miami Building Collapse

 Mandatory Structural and Facade Inspections to Increase Safety of all Jersey City High-Rise Buildings 

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop announced today new legislation to increase safety requirements for structural and facade inspections of all Jersey City high-rise buildings to better protect residents. The enhanced mandates will require ongoing inspections at a minimum of every five years for façade inspections and every ten years for structural inspections. The new safety protocols are in direct response to the tragic collapse of the Champlain Tower in Surfside, Florida, 13 days ago, which may have been preventable.

Get ready to start planning your retirement with our three-part course. These courses will assist you in preparing for retirement by combining life and wealth goals. The classes will go over how to finance some of your life goals, whether it is education, purchasing a home, traveling, and retirement.
Part I will go over how to use S.M.A.R.T. financial concept and determine whether it is attainable and if it is not, how can you make it feasible. We will go over reviewing your financial statements, real estate, whole life insurance, budgeting, cash flow, business, loans, and debt. Lastly, review tax-advantaged investment vehicles. By the end of part I, you will have a better understanding of what you need to create a plan to achieve your financial and life goals.
During Part II of this course, you will learn how to understand the various concepts leading up to retirement. These concepts include inflation, social security, and healthcare. Also, this course reviews common retirement mistakes made and what happens when you do not properly plan for retirement. Lastly, this course examines the action steps needed to plan for retirement properly.
Part III consists of you meeting one on one with the instructor to review your budget, financial statements, cash flow, debt, and retirement statements. Using the concepts learned in this course, participants will finish up with a financial plan they can take home and execute.

BAYONNE Ground-breaking ceremony for new 25th Street pedestrian bridge over the railroad gap between Avenue E and Prospect Avenue

Ground-breaking ceremony for new 25th Street pedestrian bridge in Bayonne: City Officials and Grade Construction, the building contractor, held a ground-breaking ceremony for the replacement 25th Street pedestrian bridge.  The existing bridge was constructed in 1970. The new span will have elevators that will make it handicapped accessible. The older bridge will be demolished before the new one is constructed in its place. Project completion is expected in either late 2021 or early 2022.  Like the existing bridge, the new one will connect Avenue E and Prospect Avenue over the tracks for Hudson Bergen Light Rail and freight railroads. On Sunday, June 27th, 2021 the City of Bayonne Mayor James Davis, The City Council of Bayonne and Bayonne Recreation Deptartment hosted Bayonne Youth City Challenge Obstacle Race at Domenico Park on 16th Street in Bayonne.

hUDSON cOUNTY cOMMUNITY cOLLEGE POWER YOGA-STRENGTH AND STRETCH

This energetic class is designed to explore the fundamentals of a power yoga practice. An intense strength workout and mindful yoga are referred to as “power yoga”. Yoga not only develops inner awareness but also helps develop breath and strength of mind and body. The instructor will teach you proper alignment to create the form of each pose. The workout starts with some light stretches to get your body ready and ends with cool-down poses. Throughout the class, you will engage your muscles while moving through the flow with your breath. It will also include guided relaxation to support increased awareness and mindfulness of the breath and body.This class is perfect for beginners who are just getting into the practice and also for those looking for strength practice.

Bayonne Holds Ceremony for New Police Officers

          The City of Bayonne held a swearing-in ceremony for new police officers who have joined the Police Department in 2019, 2020, and 2021.  Their ceremonies were postponed as a result of the Coronavirus.  The group of new officers includes the department’s first Filipino officer and the first two Black female officers.  This event took place in the Bayonne High School Auditorium, which was large enough to accommodate the new officers, their families, City officials, and other guests. 

          Twenty-eight new officers were sworn in by City Clerk Madelene Medina.  The new recruits have replenished the ranks of the Police Department, which has experienced many retirements during the last two years.

          The new police officers are:  Shady Nasralla, Michael May, Bryan Cruz, Hany Kased, Robert Candelaria, Thomas Jurcisin, Jr., Alexis Ogbin, Jonathan White, Zachary Hyman, Marco Coelho, Kevin Sliwowski, Mark Hermosisima, Brandon Olander, Robert Cavanaugh, Jared Ensmenger, Jack Vreeland, Mina Saleeb, Ali Aboubakr, Perla Estevez, Erik Lyman, Febronia Botros, Joseph Cordato, Kevin Vazquez, Justin Rivera, Thomas McGuckin, Tanya Roberts, Brianna Rhodes, and Daniel Hampton.

New Jersey Historian’s Website Provides Residents a Guide to Exploring NJ Revolutionary War History for the 4th of July

The 4th of July is a time when many people and families take an increased interest in exploring the history of the Revolutionary War era. And New Jersey has a rich Revolutionary War era history, with many physical locations still there to be explored. If you know where to look, you can stand in the same places that George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and Benjamin Franklin once were.

With so much to explore, many people don’t know where to begin. To help them, New Jersey historian Al Frazza has created  RevolutionaryWarNewJersey.com, an extensive online guide to finding and exploring these locations. It features photographs and information for 650 Revolutionary War historic sites. There is something there for every level of historic interest – the historic sites range from major battlefield locations, to houses and churches, to monuments and roadside markers. And because there are locations listed in 230 towns spread throughout all 21 New Jersey counties, there are sure to be some locations nearby for everyone in New Jersey.

RevolutionaryWarNewJersey.com is utilized by thousands of people every month to help them explore and learn about New Jersey local history, and it provides the perfect starting point for those looking to begin their own historic explorations for the 4th of July holiday.  As Frazza states on the website, “Nothing creates an understanding of and excitement for history like standing in the actual locations where historic events occurred.”

The Bayonne Division of Recreation has announced the 2021 Summer Sounds By the Bay Concert Series:

July 7th – Bobby Harden and his Soul Purpose Band with special guest Dave Doc Watson: Bobby, known as the Soul Man, has been touring the world and fronting the original Blues Brothers band, along with his electrifying originals! This is one concert not to be missed!

July 14th – The Princetown Pops Brass: Comprised of 13 world class musicians and led by maestro Larry Kursar! Enjoy a night on the Bay listening to American classics, Broadway and film classics done in an upbeat style!

July 21st – The Ed Palermo Big Band: This amazing group will treat you with incredible arrangements from the Beatles to Frank Zappa!

July 28th – La Fuerza: Bring your dancing shoes hailing from the Bronx, NY! La Fuerza will keep you dancing under the stars to great salsa music!

August 4th – Joe Bayer Band: Joe Bayer Band coming straight out of Nashville! Joe and his band will keep you up on your feet with classic and new country music! His band has won numerous country music awards!

August 11th – Sweet Fanny Adams: Sweet Fanny Adams will have you visiting the 60’s all over again, sharing their peace, love and happiness!

August 18th – Saints in the City: What can get more Jersey than this eight-piece band! Sinners and Saints performing the best of Bruce Springsteen! Bring your shorts and flip flops and be ready to dance at 16th Street Park!

Each performance will be begin promptly at 7:00pm and held at the amphitheater on the lower level of DiDomenico-16th Street Park, which is located between Avenue A and Newark Bay.
