DECOR for October

(ARA) – With the housing market in flux, more and more people are looking at the potential beauty of their current home. Changes can be as simple as redecorating and updating your home’s style. Some of the season’s most popular trends are producing surprisingly luxurious results that are much easier to implement than you might think.

“You no longer need to move or even do a heavy remodel to breathe fresh life into your home’s décor,” comments Ken Locicero, a Divisional Merchandise Manager for ShopNBC. “Subtle changes such as adding a touch of color or focal piece of furniture can really give your home some personality.”

sandra-julian-barker-travel-madrid.jpg By Sandra Julian Barker  little-madrid.jpg

Madrid, Spain seen through the eyes of a first-time visitor who shares discoveries and offers helpful tips for an enjoyable visit. First of all let me say, I loved my first visit to Madrid, Spain. It is everything I hoped it would be – and more!

Madrid has been the capital of Spain since 1561. The city is built atop a sprawling mesa 2,150 feet high, making it Europe’s highest capital, yet we did not feel we were in a hilly area. We traveled on foot during our entire three-day visit to Madrid, so we did not venture more than a couple miles in any direction from our hotel. We stayed in the center of the city at Puerta del Sol near many of the country’s finest treasures. Continue reading Madrid, Spain — from a First Time Visitor

The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor

riverview-online-sept-photo-copy.jpg “It’s very important that people understand that this is not set up to be an island. This is Bayonne”
-Nancy Kist, Executive   Director BLRA By Tom Dwyer

Sometimes a development project can be so massive it’s hard to wrap one’s head around it. You know that it’s moving forward, but where’s the end?  The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor fits this category. The Riverview Observer spoke with Nancy Kist, the Executive Director of the Bayonne Local Redevelopment Authority, to get an update on the ongoing project.

SOME HISTORY
In 1999 the US Army lowered the flag at MOTBY—the Military Ocean Terminal, a 430-acre former military base that jaunts out into the Hudson River off of Rt 440.  In 2002, the city of Bayonne took over complete ownership of MOTBY through the Bayonne Local Redevelopment Authority and renamed the property The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor. Since then the Bayonne Local Redevelopment Authority has been working to transform the old base into a world-class mixed-use waterfront community of residential, light industrial, commercial and recreational space. The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor is currently the largest redevelopment effort underway in the metropolitan region.

HEALTH TODAY- Oh my Gosh, what is Brucellosis?

Oh my gosh…..                                                      what-is-brucelosisi-copy.jpg

By Abhay  Buranade

Domesticated animals are perilous in the form of Brucellosis. The prevention is exacting and treatment is cumbersome.

Brucellosis is an infectious disease that originates in animals and further attacks human beings. It is so named because the causative agent is a bacteria of the kind Brucella. It is usually seen to affect domestic animals like dogs, goats, cattle and pigs. The disease is omnipresent and generally widespread in developing nations. In the 19th century, it was called as Malta fever or Mediterranean fever. From the 20th century, it was referred to as undulant fever. The reason was that the fever falls and rises over some weeks in untreated patients.

STREET MONEY & YOU

street-money-and-you-copy.jpg

Even if you don’t play the stock market, Wall Street’s recent rollercoaster ride may have you worrying about your nest egg.

But before you decide the end is near, keep in mind that the number of publicly traded companies amounts to less than one tenth of one percent of all the businesses operating in the United States. Smart investors are finding plenty of opportunity and profit in the nearly 24 million private companies that impact the everyday lives of most Americans through employment and products.
