LET’S DANCE!  Meagan Woods Curates “Out of Bounds†Dance Show, Sat, June 2nd
8 Choreographers Explore ‘Resistance’ at White Eagle Hall

Instead of performing on a stage away from the audience, the new dance show, OUT OF BOUNDS, curated by dancer-choreographer Meagan Woods of Jersey City, will have dancers moving on stage and in the audience.
The curtain goes up on OUT OF BOUNDS on Sat, June 2, at 8 pm and will feature eight choreographies by eight New Jersey dancer-choreographers, including Woods. The show goes on at White Eagle Hall, an extension of the Jersey City Theater Center, where Artistic Director Olga Levina invited Woods to curate a dance show that would engage the audience. New Jersey’s Austin Wright Sr, Hampton Jr., McCormick, and Jedrzejczyk were recognized by NJ USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame

Head coach Austin Wright Sr. was recognized and inducted by the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame Hall of Hero’s. Wright was inducted in the category of “Grandmaster Leading by Example Award.†Wright is known for his “Spirit of the Dragon Warrior†because of his championship-leadership and CHI (Character, Humility, and Integrity). There were several members of Team Wright who earned the Kidz Award at the Hall of Fame for their passion in karate, for team competition, winning national championships for New Jersey, and community service. One of the Team Wright members who received the Kidz Award from the USA Hall of Fame was the 15-year-old Keith Hampton Jr.; he won the Outstanding Jr. Black Belt of the Year Award. The Top Rated Jr. Male Competitor Award was presented to Declan McCormick and the Top Rated Jr. Female Competitor Award was awarded to Cassandra Jedrzejczyk. All students mentioned are members of the UWA Martial Arts Federation of America and U.S. National Martial Arts Team “Alliance.â€

Hudson County Community College Invites Aspiring Business Owners
Urban Entrepreneurship Course
May 22, 2018 / Jersey City, NJ – Starting a business in an urban environment requires a combination of street and business smarts. Entrepreneurs must invest time and resources into building unique business models. The rewards include financial independence, creative freedom, and a positive impact on the community.
Hudson County Community College (HCCC) has a special opportunity for those who wish to start a business in an urban area. The College’s “Urban
Entrepreneurship†course will be held on Tuesday and Thursday, August 7 and 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the L Building (71 Sip Avenue) of the College’s Journal Square Campus. Space is limited, and the cost is $85 per person.
The noncredit class will focus on the challenges specific to doing business in metropolitan locations. Topics covered will include:

FLEET WEEK DEMONSTRATIONS
SUN, MAY 27: U.S. Maritime Services Showcase
On Sun, May 27, from noon-to-5 pm, the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard will put on some magnificent displays to showcase the latest capabilities of today’s maritime services. Now in its 3rd year, the event celebrates these three branches of service and offers local residents the opportunity to meet Sailors, Marines and members of the Coast Guard who patrol the Hudson and keep it safe. The event will include performances and demonstrations by the U.S. Navy Band, U.S. Navy Helicopter Static Display & Dive Tank, the U.S. Marine Corps Battle Color Detachment, the U.S. Coast Guard Search and Rescue, the U.S. Coast Guard Silent Drill Team, and Military Static Displays. Kids can look forward to participating in some fun activities, too. Partners for this event include the State of New Jersey, City of Jersey City, Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Parks and Forestry and Liberty State Park. Donations Sought to Support Mission of Catholic Charities to Help the Needy
Newark, NJ, May 21, 2018 –
Gently used clothing, shoes, linens and sheets, books or other small household items that you or your family may no longer need will do much good for people who are less fortunate. The Archdiocese of Newark’s office of Catholic
Charities makes it easy to donate clothing and household goods at collection points throughout the four counties of the Diocese to help
alleviate the suffering of the needy who seek relief through the many operations of Catholic Charities.
Catholic Charities, a not-for-profit social service agency of the Roman Catholic Church within the Archdiocese of Newark, which serves approximately 70,000 individuals and families each year with almost 90 programs, gratefully
accepts donations in new or good condition at numerous drop-off donation bins that will benefit the needy in Bergen, Union, Hudson, and Essex counties. A list of approximately 70 donation bin locations is available on their website at
www.ccannj.com.
Recently, donation bins were added to three Catholic Cemeteries locations: Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, and Saint Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia. The office of Catholic Cemeteries,
a Ministry of the Archdiocese of Newark, encourages donations in memory of a deceased loved one.
“Helping the needy is one of the most basic acts of loving kindness, and donating items that are no longer needed on behalf of a departed
loved one is a wonderful gift that truly honors their memory in a tangible way and helps our community in need,†said Andrew P. Schafer, Executive Director of Catholic Cemeteries. “Clothing the naked and sheltering the homeless are among the Corporal Works
of Mercy, as are feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, and burial of the dead,†he added.
The proceeds of all donated items sold directly support Catholic Charities programs for the needy. Recently, proceeds provided vital
funds to purchase 85 new metal-framed beds to replace broken wooden bed frames St. Lucy’s Emergency Shelter, a supervised emergency shelter in Jersey City for single women and men that offers emergency housing, food, and overall care for those for the homeless
throughout the year.

Bayonne native serves aboard one of the U.S. Navy’s first “Stealth Shipsâ€

BATH, Maine – A 2015 Bayonne High School graduate and Bayonne, New Jersey, native is serving as part of the Pre Commissioning Unit for the future Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116).
Seaman Apprentice Randy Bautista is a culinary specialist assigned to DDG 116 in Bath, Maine.
As a culinary specialist Bautista is responsible for food preparation and serving meals to the crew.
“I enjoy making my fellow shipmates smile at mealtime and knowing that I’m an important part of their daily lives onboard Thomas Hudner,†said Bautista.

Bayonne to Hold Open Mic Night at Museum on May 15: Spoken Word, Poetry, Essays, Raps, and Rhymes
Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the City of Bayonne will hold the first Open Mic Night at the Bayonne Community Museum on Tuesday, May 15. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. The program will begin at about 6:30 p.m. Those interested in performing in spoken word, poetry, essays, raps, and rhymes must sign in to participate.
Performers will be called before the audience in order of registration. Mayor Davis said, “We have a growing number of talented performers in Bayonne. Open Mic Night will give them an opportunity to do their best in front of a hometown crowd. We look forward to providing this new forum for our local stars to shine. We hope this will be just the beginning.â€
Open Mic Night will not include musical performances. Background drumming will be accepted, if it helps the performers of the spoken word.
Foul language will not be allowed in the show, in order to maintain a family-friendly atmosphere in a public building.
Open Mic Night will be free of charge and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
The Bayonne Community Museum is located at 229 Broadway at the corner of 9th Street. Mass transit to the site is available by either the Broadway Bus, or by Hudson Bergen Light Rail trains to the 8th Street Station, which is located around the block.
