AARP New Jersey explained how it would work for New Jersey voters;all registered voters who are affiliated with a political party will automatically receive a vote-by-mail ballot, including a postage paid return envelope, which must be returned by July 7.  Registered,unaffiliated (Independent) voters, will receive a vote-by-mail application with a postage paid return envelope. These voters will need to fill out and return the application to their county clerk by June 30 in order to receive a vote-by-mail ballot.   In-person voting will also be available at certain polling locations on July 7.

What should I do if I want to vote by mail?If you are affiliated with a political party, you will automatically receive a vote-by-mail ballot in the mail. Fill it out and mail it back no later than July 7.
What should I do if I am an Independent voter?If you are not affiliated with a political party (Independent), you will receive an application to request a vote-by-mail ballot. Fill it out with your preferred political affiliation and return it to your county clerk no later than June 30. Then, you will receive a vote-by-mail ballot, which must be completed and mailed no later than July 7.
When will I receive my vote-by-mail ballot or application?The New Jersey Division of Elections has not yet released the date that ballots will be mailed to voters; we will keep you updated once the information is available.
What if I am not registered to vote?The deadline to register to vote is June 16, 2020. Download your county’s voter registration form here. Once you have completed it and mailed it in, you can track your registration.
Will I receive a sample ballot?Voters will not receive a sample ballot prior to the primary election. For more information on primary election candidates, visit the New Jersey Division of Elections here.
Will my vote be counted if I vote in-person?On July 7, 2020, the date of the NJ Primary Election, there will be limited polling places open in each municipality.
