Free Parking in Bayonne Municipal Lots in December for Non-Commercial Vehicles
Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that there will be free parking for the entire month of December in all Bayonne Parking Utility lots for non-commercial vehicles. The program will be in effect through Tuesday, January 1, 2019. Parking charges in the lots will resume for non-commercial vehicles on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. Mayor Davis said, “The purpose of the free parking program in the lots is to encourage people to shop in Bayonne during the holiday season.â€
Mayor Davis thanked the Bayonne Parking Utility for supporting the annual free parking policy again this year. He said, “The Parking Utility deserves our thanks for offering free parking to non-commercial vehicles in the lots during the 2018 holiday season.â€
The free parking program does not apply to commercial vehicles or to on-street parking meters. All commercial and non-commercial drivers must continue feeding the meters on the streets. The paid permit program for commercial vehicles that park overnight in the lots will remain in effect.
HCCC President Chris Reber: Building Upon the Success of the First 150 Days
November 26, 2018, Jersey City, NJ – As a rule, the first 150 days set the tone and pace of a presidency and often indicate priorities that will be pursued. Recently, Dr. Chris Reber marked the 150th day of his term as president of Hudson County Community College (HCCC). In the five-plus months since taking office, he has been moving forward nonstop with optimism and enthusiasm.
Since July, Reber has conducted a “listening tour†that has involved more than 100 meetings with faculty, staff, students and community leaders and yielded an understanding of those constituents’ perspectives, concerns, hopes and ideas. He has been preparing for collective bargaining negotiations and working with faculty and staff to ensure for the College’s successful reaccreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Food Donations Requested by Catholic Cemeteries to Feed the Hungry During the Christmas Season
NEWARK, NJ — Catholic Cemeteries, a ministry of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark, kicks off its 15th annual Christmas Food Drive to assist those in need this season. Non-perishable food items such as cereal boxes or soup cans will be distributed to local food pantries to help feed those who are less fortunate. Donations may be brought to Archdiocesan cemetery and mausoleum offices during business hours from now through January 6, 2019. A list of cemetery locations is available at www.rcancem.org. Financial donations also are accepted online at www.rcancem.org/donate.
“Feeding the hungry is one of the seven Corporal Works of Mercy and performing this charitable act of loving kindness on behalf of a deceased loved one is a caring gift that truly honors their memory in a tangible way,†says Andrew P. Schafer, Executive Director of Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark.
The annual food drive has aided two local organizations in recent years: the Newark-based Missionary Sisters of Charity, founded by Saint Teresa of Calcutta, which provides food and shelter for women in the community; and the Emergency Food and Nutrition Network in East Orange, which provides assistance and emergency food supplies to 50 food centers in the Archdiocese.

DWI Check Points Announced for Jersey City this Holiday Weekend
JERSEY CITY – According to a national study, 40 percent of traffic-related deaths during the holidays resulted from drunk drivers compared to 28 percent the rest of the year. Between Thanksgiving and
New Year’s Day, more than two times more people die in alcohol-related crashes. With more people expected to be traveling during this Thanksgiving weekend, the Jersey City Police Department will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint to deter and detect motorists
who choose to drink and drive.
As part of the Jersey City Comprehensive Traffic Safety Program, the Jersey City Police Department has been awarded the Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund in the amount of $11,731. These funds are
awarded through the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety to support DWI Enforcement initiatives within local jurisdictions.
Law enforcement officials will be evaluating drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Police officers will also target impaired drivers by observing moving violations such as no seatbelt, reckless
driving, speeding, aggressive driving, and cell phone use.
“Our message is simple –
Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk,†says Police Chief Michael Kelly. “We encourage anyone planning on drinking this Thanksgiving weekend, or anytime for that matter, to be responsible and designate either a sober driver, arrange for an Uber ride,
or use the transit system. Sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols will be implemented throughout the upcoming holidays. So chances are if you are impaired, you will be caught and arrested.â€
Bayonne Lights its Christmas Tree
On November 20th, 2018 Bayonne Mayor James Davis and the Bayonne City Council and Santa Claus, along with hundreds of Bayonne residents with their children took part in the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.
In cooperation with the Bayonne UEZ’s Terrence Malloy, Dee Dee Bottino and Camille Burgos and verious city agencies as always the event was a major success.
There were performances by the Bayonne High School Jazz Ensemble and Christmas Carols were sung by All Saints Academy Choir.
The event also provided a petting zoo with Sheep, Llamas, cows which was a huge hit with the children.
Santa arrived on a Bayonne Fire Department truck which had the children calling out for Santa as he made his way up to the stage, greeted by Mayor Davis.

Jersey City Medical Center Honors Hospital Staff Veterans at Annual Veterans Day Commemoration Â
Jersey City Medical Center commemorated Veterans Day on Tuesday with a special flag raising ceremony to honor hospital staff that served or are in service in the United States Armed Forces. Michael Prilutsky, President and CEO, Jersey City Medical Center led the ceremony and recognized a dozen veterans from the different military branches.

Theater Company Blindfolds Audience; Focuses on Other Senses

Theater artist Amanda Levie believes audiences should see theater on an even-playing field. So, several years ago, Levie founded the No Peeking Theatre company in Jersey City, where audiences “watch†the show wearing blindfolds.
“They experience the play through taste, sound, touch and smell,†Levie says.
No Peeking’s latest venture into theater for the blindfolded debuted Thurs, Nov. 8, with the absurdist comedy, We Have Standards by Allie Kroeper, to be performed at the Kennedy Dancers studios on Beacon Street in the Jersey City Heights.
