A Bell 206 aircraft left from Downtown Manhattan Heliport at 2:59 p.m. It vanished from radar at 3:25. Minutes later, wreckage hit the river near Jersey City.

The family of two adults and three children, visiting from Spain, was on an aerial tour along the Hudson River.

The cause of the accident has not been determined at this time, as mentioned in a late afternoon press conference.

Two children who were occupants of the helicopter were brought to Jersey City’s Medical Center and later died.

Like many in the medical profession in New Jersey, Dr. Deven Unadkat is concerned about the growing number of positive COVID-19 cases in New Jersey, especially in Hudson County.

Since flattening out over the summer, the number of new positive COVID-19 cases has been steadily climbing. On August 28, Hudson Countyâ€s seven-day average was 17. This week, the seven-day average rose to 249.

But Dr. Unadkat, the chair and medical director of the Emergency Medicine at Jersey City Medical Center, also sees a ray of hope.

Stefan Balan, MD is the director of Oncology Services at Jersey City Medical Center. He is board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine. Jersey City, NJ – Paul Vega remembers exactly what he was doing when the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center as if it were yesterday. Except it was 19 years ago this month.

Vegas was driving an ambulance, with a patient he picked up a few minutes earlier, to Jersey City Medical Center (JCMC), where he was employed as an EMT. 

He recalls seeing smoke billowing from the tower, but his two-way radio wasnâ€t working, and he had no idea what had happened. Like many people in the initial moments after the tower was struck, Vega thought it was an accident – a small plane or news helicopter that had collided with the building.
