 JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Oct. 31, 2017) – Jersey City Medical Center  will hold the first-ever “Race for JCMC EMS” at RPM Raceway, 99 Caven Point Road, Jersey City, on Nov. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Guests at the inaugural event have an opportunity to drive on two tracks and will be able to learn more about Jersey City Medical Centerâ€s Emergency Medical Services, CPR training, health screenings and other programs and services offered by the Medical Center.

This event will be free for the first 300 pre-registered guests. Free entry tickets will be available by registering online and will include access to each of the racewayâ€s two tracks.

The event will raise awareness about Jersey City Medical Centerâ€s EMS Department which provides both Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support and 9-1-1 communications to all of Jersey City, as well as Advanced Life Support and 9-1-1 communications to greater Hudson County.

“Jersey City has some of the highest survival rates in the nation, thanks to JCMCâ€s Emergency Medical Services and our state-of-the-art technology,” said Robert Luckritz, Jersey Cityâ€s Executive Director of Emergency Medical Services. “Our medical responders are first on the scene when lives are on the line and every second counts.”

The department has earned national recognition for its average response time of 4 minutes, 26 seconds – well below the U.S. average of 9 minutes – and its cardiac arrest survival rate is nearly double the national average. During 2016 alone, it responded to more than 90,000 calls for emergency service.

Members of the JCMC EMS department also serve as first responders to all regional disasters, including 2016 train station derailment in Hoboken, the 2009 “Miracle on the Hudson” crash of Flight 1549 on the Hudson River, and the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.

“We want our community to get to know our EMS team and the entire Medical Center, before a medical emergency,” said Joseph F. Scott, President and CEO of Jersey City Medical Center. “We are proud to provide the highest quality, life-saving care for our residents and want all our neighbors in Hudson County to meet and support their first responders.”

 Bayonne Bridge Project updates announced by   Mayor Jimmy Davis , the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has provided new information about the latest developments in the Bayonne Bridge construction project.

At Pier N2, south of 1^st Street, by the shoreline, footings are under construction.  At Piers N3, N4, and N5, located south of 1^st Street, work has been completed for now.

            At Pier N6 & Pier N7, north of 1^st Street (between 1^st and 2^nd Streets), drill shaft work and excavation for sixteen footings are underway.  The Port Authority will be working in this area until December.

At Pier N8, between 2^nd and Gertrude Street, behind Ideal Windows, work has been completed for now. At Pier N9, between Gertrude and 3^rd Street (behind “The Bridge” indoor skate park), Pier N10 – 3^rd Street (south side), and Pier N11 – 3^rd Street (north side), and Pier N12, between Juliette and 4^th Streets (Slootsky Park on Juliette Street side), pier erection is in progress with the crane.

By Pier N13, between Juliette & 4^th Streets (Slootsky Park 4^th Street side), workers are installing pier tops with the crane.  By Pier 14, Margaret Street, gantry operation started at night (9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.) between Margaret and 4^th Streets placing roadway segments.  This will be in place for about four more weeks.

At Pier N15 (by the abutment), the gantry has its base of operations.

The Port Authority has announced the daily schedule for Bayonne Bridge closures for the last week of April/start of May: Wednesday,  April 29 – 9am – 3pm closure; Wednesday, April 29 – 8:30pm – 5:00 am closure; Thursday,  April 30 – 9am – 3pm closure; Thursday, April 30 – 8:30pm – 5:00 am closure; Friday,  May 1 – 9am – 3pm closure; and Friday, May 1 – 11:59PM closure. The Bayonne Bridge will be closed from 11:59pm Friday, May 1, through 11:59pm Saturday, May 2.

Please Note: All dates are subject to change based on weather and work scheduling. Closures to align and set pier segments are subject to change due to product issues no later than 4:00 p.m. the day before.

Multi-Hour Closures:  During the last week of April, there will be several multi-hour closures of the Bayonne Bridge:

                20-Minute Traffic Holds: To facilitate pier segment delivery and erection at worksites in Bayonne and Staten Island, 20-minute traffic holds may take place.

Mothers†Day Schedule: The Bayonne Bridge will remain open without any closures from Saturday, May 9, at 8:00 a.m., until Monday, May 11, at 5:00 a.m.

Memorial Day Schedule: The Bayonne Bridge will remain open without any closures from Friday, May 22, at 5:00 a.m., until Tuesday, May 26, at 5:00 a.m.

Fathers†Day Schedule: The Bayonne Bridge will remain open without any closures Saturday, June 20, from 8:00 a.m. until Monday, June 22, at 5:00 p.m.

New Closure Time Effective Monday, April 20: Beginning April 20, the bridge will close at 8:30 p.m. instead of 9:00 p.m. for the duration of the project.

Street Closures: Portions of West 4^th Street are closed until June.   Portions of West 3^rd Street are closed until July. Juliette and Gertrude Streets are to be closed frequently throughout the project from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  No other streets will be closed while three of the streets above are closed. While these sections of roadway are closed, vehicles can continue to enter from JFK Boulevard or Avenue A for local access only. No through traffic can travel under the Bayonne Bridge.

Residential Assistance Programs: If residents near the work zones feel inconvenienced due to the work noise, or if they have any safety concerns while construction is underway near their home, they can participate in the Port Authorityâ€s Hotel Stay Program.  O.R. Colan Associates (ORC) is the Port Authorityâ€s agent.  Residents must contact them to confirm their eligibility and to book a reservation at a specific hotel in Staten Island, Jersey City, or the Newark Airport area).  They will arrange for a comfortable setting.  ORC can be reached at 201-301-6263 or by e-mail at bbnmp@orcolan.com.  Residents do not need to be homeowners to participate in this program.

Window Replacement: Homeowners are still eligible for the Window Replacement Program.  They should call ORC at 201-301-6263 for details and an enrollment package.

Itâ€s been 25 years since Hudson celebrated the first Earth Day in Liberty State Park and on Sat, April 25 – rain or shine — the Hudson County Improvement Authority (HCIA), Friends of Liberty State Park, and local and state community activists will be at the waterfront park to enlighten local residents on ecological issues in Hudson and the world-at-large.

Earth Day 2015 will kick off at 10 am with a 5k Walk and Run through the park; and for the kids thereâ€ll be  kite flying, arts and crafts, inflatable rides, interactive games, contests and giveaways, with a steady flow of entertainers on the main stage; and refreshments, too. Hundreds of volunteers from city and state community groups and organizations will present displays on local and world-wide ecological innovations and reforms to inform visitors about the eco future.

“This year marks our 25th anniversary of Earth Day Celebrations here in Hudson County and since its inception, the goal has always been to raise environmental awareness among members of the community,” says Mary-Ellen Gilpin, Director of HCIAâ€s  environmental programs. “The fair creates an opportunity for residents, young and old, to enjoy themselves while learning the importance of ‘reducing, re-using and recycling†and protecting our urban environment.”

The Hudson County Improvement Authority (HCIA), founded in 1974, provides strategic planning and coordination of public policy initiatives on behalf of Hudson County municipalities and residents. The authority is responsible for a vast range of services including low interest financing for public and private initiatives, solid waste management, environmental education, recycling and transportation management, recreation services, and alternative energy initiatives.

From the 5K run/walk, to the informative displays and tents, and green communities†marketplace, Hudson residents will have a wide array of things to do and see at the fair, Gilpin says.

“View the winning posters drawn by students for our 9^th annual Earth Day Calendar art contest, or make a pledge to help the environment at the ‘Wishing Treeâ€,” Gilpin says. “This year will be the largest Earth Day Fair we have ever run. It is more important than ever to make sure our communities understand what resources are available in the county to help protect our environment, together.”

The national Earth Day theme this year is “Itâ€s Our Turn to Lead” focusing on the unique environmental challenges facing our world, and especially our urban municipalities. All attendees at LSP are invited to visit the Wishing Trees to make a pledge to perform one act that can lead the way to make our Hudson municipalities “greener”.

“On behalf of myself and my fellow commissioners, I would like to invite you to join us in Liberty State Park for a celebration of 25 Years of Earth Day in Hudson County,” HCIA Chairman John L. Shinnick says. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring residents together to learn about the environment and spend time with their community. It’s a great day of free outdoor fun for the whole family.”

Exhibitors at Earth Day 2015 will include city and state government agencies, community groups, service organizations, health care service providers, ‘green†retailers and non-profits with ecological missions like Hudson River Waterfront Conservancy, Citizens Climate Lobby, Student Conservation Association, NJ Dept. of Environmental Protection, and the NY/NJ Baykeeper. The NY/NJ Baykeeper in Keyport offers eco cruises and kayak tours that launch from Keyport. Representatives from the NY/NJ Baykeeper will be at LSP to raise awareness to the needs within NY-NJ Harbor.

“Many residents throughout New Jersey don’t know how to access their waterways to use them for recreational purposes and learn more about their environment,” Sandra Meola of the NY/NJ Baykeeper says. “Baykeeper’s interactive kayak tours and eco cruises aim to connect the public to their waterways. By doing so, we advocate for the protection and preservation of our waterways within the NY-NJ Harbor Estuary.”

WALK FOR FRIENDS OF LSP; RUN FOR HC IMPROVEMENT

 Friends of Liberty State Park is an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, conserving and promoting Liberty State Park. Since 1988, it has advocated for the protection and improvement of this open space park, and more than 5 million visitors come annually to enjoy this recreational, natural, historic, and cultural public resource. It all began when local residents Morris Pesin and Audrey Zapp, and historic preservationist Ted Conrad led a citizens†movement to transform a waterfront wasteland of abandoned rail yards and decaying piers into a park. Sam Pesin, the son of Morris Pesin continues his fatherâ€s advocacy as director of the Friends of Liberty State Park.

“Earth Day is a time for us all to celebrate Mother Nature and think about doing all we can to contribute to a clean and healthy environment,” Pesin says. “We must all be activists in protecting the beauty, necessity and spiritual power of nature and open space.  Liberty State Park is our great urban waterfront open space which enriches our urban quality of life.”

At 11 am, following “Walk for LSP” and the HCIAâ€s 5K Walk/Run, a “Kids’ Kingdom” area will open with environment-themed displays, information on services available throughout Hudson, and tree seedlings, compliments of the NJ Division of Parks and Forestry.

Throughout the day, strolling entertainers like a juggling stilt-walker, “Earth Boy”, “Buster”, “Woodsy” and “Garbage Goat” will interact with festival-goers, and. DJ Mickey will emcee the stage acts. Hereâ€s the line-up:

New Jersey Turnpike Authority Officials, Bayonne  Mayor Jimmy Davis The Bayonne City Council,  Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, New Jersey State Senator Sandra Cunningham, Assemblyman Charles Mainor,Jersey City  Deputy Director Vivian Brady-Philips  broke ground  on Wednesday, March 11th for the $310 million NJ Turnpike Authority’s Interchange 14 A Improvement Project.

This project is being funded as part of the Turnpike Authority’s ongoing 10-year, $7billion capital program.

The Interchange: 14A connects the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extention of the New Jersey Turnpike with Rout 440 and Port Jersey Boulevard. It is  located cities of Bayonne ad Jersey City. Approximately 50,000 vehicles including 6,000 trucks use the interchange on a typical weekday. Congestion at the interchange is expected to worsen in the future because fo regional traffic growth and local development.

Project Description: The toll plaza is being widened from 11-13 lanes. The existing two-lane connector bridge from the toll plaza to Route 440, Route 185 and Port Jersey Boulevard will be replaced with a four-lane structure. A flyover ramp is being built from the interchange and Port Jersey Boulevard to Route 440 south. An existing traffic signal at East 53rd Street in Bayonne will be removed and roundabout will be constructed to maintain permanent access to the interchange.

Project Benefits: The improvements will reduce delays on the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extention, relieve congestion the street of Bayonne and Jersey City, create jobs, and encourage regional economic development.

Schedule: Construction begins early 2015 and is expected to be complete in 2018.

Community Involvement: There have bee three public information centers and two public hearings. A fourth public information center will be held this month. The Turnpike Authority  will hold regular meetings with local official in Bayonne and Jersey City during the project to provide status updates and to address any community issues. The Turnpike Authority will also coordinate traffic impacts with PANYNJ’s Bayonne Bridge Project team. A dedicated project website and hotline have been established to share information about the work being done and to provide an opportunity for residents to ask questions or express concerns. On Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 11am – 2pm, the Peninsula Womenâ€s Club will host their 2^nd Annual Women of Achievement Brunch.  The Brunch will be held at The Chandelier located at 1081 Broadway, Bayonne NJ and the cost is $35.00 per person.

The Clubâ€s motto is “striving for a better community” and the brunch honors a woman, as well as a young woman, who they feel lives this motto.  Madeline Lo Re, a local business owner, has worked within our community to bring awareness to others for various cancer treatments and precautions.  Briel Peters, a high school Junior, is involved with her community, school and Church with many different activities.  PWC celebrates these women for all they do for our community.

The club is dedicated to bringing women together for the promotion of civic and philanthropic activities. They work to create an interest in education, fine arts and topics of public interest through cooperative relationships. We also build friendship and have fun while we are doing it.

The GFWC Peninsula Womenâ€s Club (PWC) was established in Bayonne, in September 2011, and Federated with the New Jersey State Federation of Womenâ€s Clubs of the General Federation of Womenâ€s Clubs in 2012. The GFWC Peninsula Womenâ€s Club is affiliated with both the General Federation of Womenâ€s Clubs (GFWC) and the New Jersey State Federation of Womenâ€s Clubs (NJSFWC). This continues a long history of Federated clubs in Bayonne, dating back to the early 1900â€s.
