HCCC’s 50th Anniversary celebration continues on October 18th with the College’s first ever Homecoming Open House Block Party.

October 14, 2025, Jersey City, NJ – Each fall, colleges around the country welcome back students, alumni, and neighbors for the time-honored tradition of homecoming. This year, Hudson County Community College (HCCC) is hosting its own edition of this fall favorite for the first time, creating a new tradition for its growing community. HCCC is proud to invite students, future students, alumni, and community members to its first ever Homecoming Block Party on Saturday, October 18, 2025, as part of the College’s 50th Anniversary celebration, Fifty and Forward, which will also feature the Fall Open House.   

The festivities will take place from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Culinary Conference Center and Culinary Plaza Park at HCCC’s Journal Square Campus, bringing the community together for a day filled with music, performances, art, and reflection on five decades of growth and achievement.

April 25, 2022, Jersey City, NJ – On a sunny September Wednesday in 2011, more than 100 individuals gathered outside 4800 Kennedy Boulevard in Union City, New Jersey to celebrate the grand opening of the $28.2 million Hudson County Community College (HCCC) North Hudson Higher Education Center (now the HCCC North Hudson Campus). Elected and appointed officials, college and university presidents, Hudson County area grade-school and high-school principals and counselors, and HCCC students, trustees, faculty, and staff came together for a day of festivities that included music, guided tours, ice cream socials, scavenger hunts, keepsake photos, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony with formal remarks.

This energetic class is designed to explore the fundamentals of a power yoga practice. An intense strength workout and mindful yoga are referred to as “power yoga”. Yoga not only develops inner awareness but also helps develop breath and strength of mind and body. The instructor will teach you proper alignment to create the form of each pose. The workout starts with some light stretches to get your body ready and ends with cool-down poses. Throughout the class, you will engage your muscles while moving through the flow with your breath. It will also include guided relaxation to support increased awareness and mindfulness of the breath and body.This class is perfect for beginners who are just getting into the practice and also for those looking for strength practice. May 20, 2021, Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Community College (HCCC) will honor graduates with a combination of virtual and in-person 2021 Commencement celebrations. They include the Virtual Commencement that will premiere on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 12 p.m. on YouTube; and in-person Grad Walk events Monday, May 24 through Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 4 to 6 p.m., at the HCCC Culinary Conference Center, 161 Newkirk Street in Jersey City.

“We worked diligently to ensure that the May 2021 Commencement experience will be exciting, celebratory, and, above all, safe for our graduates, their families, and the entire community,” said HCCC President Dr. Chris Reber. The format for the events was determined utilizing information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE), and input from a survey of graduating HCCC students.

The pre-recorded Virtual Commencement will feature speeches and customized slides for graduates. The speakers include Dr. Reber; HCCC 2021 Valedictorian Pedro Moranchel; and entrepreneur, veteran, best-selling author, and CEO of Robin Hood, Wes Moore, who will deliver the keynote address. Robin Hood is one of the largest anti-poverty forces in the nation.

The optional Grad Walk events will allow members of the HCCC Class of 2021, as well as those who graduated in 2019-2020, to celebrate in cap-and-gown with up to three guests each. Graduates will process across the stage in the HCCC Culinary Conference Center Banquet Room, where they will be cheered on by a small group of faculty and staff. Each graduate will have the opportunity for traditional diploma photos.

The Grad Walk events will be live-streamed. Participants will be required to wear masks and observe social distancing. The schedule includes:

• HCCC Divisions of Business, Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management; and English and ESL, on Monday, May 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 4 to 6 p.m.
  
  
• HCCC Division of Humanities and Social Sciences on Tuesday, May 25, 11 a.m. to
  1 p.m., and 4 to 6 p.m.
  
  
• HCCC Divisions of Nursing and Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), on Wednesday, May 26, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 4 to 6 p.m.
  
  
• All Divisions on Thursday, May 27, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 4 to 6 p.m. Early College graduates will also be featured during the dayâ€s 4 to 6 p.m. event.

On Thursday, April 15, 2021 Hudson County Community College (HCCC) will further strengthen its culture of care with the opening of the new “Hudson Helps” Resource Center. The College will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Resource Center, which is located on the third floor of 70 Sip Avenue, on the Collegeâ€s Journal Square Campus in Jersey City.

“We are determined to remove the barriers that prevent our students from succeeding in their studies and completing their degree and certificate work,” said Dr. Chris Reber. “This Resource Center provides a complete array of services and resources to address students†myriad of needs, and ensure their academic success.”

April 1, 2021, Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Trustees have voted unanimously to freeze the costs of tuition and fees for the second consecutive year.

HCCC President Dr. Chris Reber said the Board voted to maintain the current level of tuition and fees with no increases continuing throughout the 2021-22 academic year. The extension will include this yearâ€s Summer II and Fall semester classes, as well as the 2022 Winter, Spring, and Summer I sessions.
