Bayonne Business Administrator Terrence Malloy is retiring from the City of Bayonne effective April 30, 2020 after thirty-eight years of service in several administrative and financial positions. He has served as Business Administrator under Mayor Jimmy Davis since 2014. His past responsibilities have included the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Finance Director, and previous stints as Business Administrator, among other offices. Mr. Malloy served as Mayor from October 2007 to November 2008.

As Halloween approaches, many of us are gearing up to have some bewitching fun as witches, goblins and things that go bump in the night. In Bayonne, the UEZ and Bergen Point merchants are preparing to scare up some local fun at the Bayonne Bergen Point Festival to be held on Sat, Oct. 18, from noon to 5 pm.

A community celebration, the festival, which will be held on Broadway from 5^th to Cottage Streets will feature entertainment, more than 30 food vendors and lots of fun things for the kids like rides, balloon sculptures, temporary tattoos, sand art, face painting and more.

There will also be a Doggie Costume Contest at 12 noon (registration starts at 11:30 am) with 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place awards going to pooches in creative costumes.

“We hope everyone will come join the Bergen Point Merchants for a fun-filled community event that will showcase the magic that is once again returning to the Bergen Point Shopping District,” Terrence Malloy of the UEZ says.

Along with the fun activities for kids, local artists will be displaying their work and for entertainment, two musical acts, a dance show and a DJ will be performing. Lots of food vendors are participating and the Bayonne Medical Center will be there to offer free health screenings.

In addition, the Windmill Alliance is hosting an antique car show just across from the event on 5th Street.

“Our goal is to showcase the Bergen Point District as a place to shop, dine, live and do business,” Malloy says. “By hosting a family/community event, the merchants are hopeful that Bayonne residents, as well as residents from surrounding communities, will rediscover a hidden gem in Bayonne known as the Bergen Point District.”

 On March 1^st the program was introduced to Bayonne business owners and Bayonne residents at a special luncheon hosted by the Bayonne Urban Enterprise Zone and the Bayonne Special Improvement District.   And a special mailing will go out to Bayonne Businesses and Bayonne residents explaining how the program works.

 “Shop Bayonne” is a program initiative that provides a tax credit to residents who make purchases from local businesses in town. Once you enroll in the program, you are assigned a property tax card similar to the reward cards you get in other stores; youâ€ll use it when you make your purchases with local merchants who are participating in the program. Residents who use their PTC-Property Tax Card will accumulate property tax dollars towards their tax bill.

 The program which has also been presented to other New Jersey municipalities is not designed just for property owners; it is also available to Bayonne residents who rent. The only difference is that renters who enroll in the program will receive a check at the end of the year for their discounted purchases which they have collected over time. The “Shop Bayonne” program is completely voluntary and is available to all Bayonne residents.
