JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy   and that the City of Jersey City and the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation showcased and honor businesses that have chosen to establish and conduct their business in Jersey City by conducting the Second Annual “Made in Jersey City” Day. The event was held from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at City Hall (280 Grove Street) in the City Council Chambers. A press conference will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Mayor Healy, Jersey City Economic Development Corporation Chief Executive Officer Eugene Nelson and Jersey City Urban Enterprise Zone Director Roberta Farber welcoming the seven companies being honored this year and members of the community.

“The entrepreneurial spirit of the men and women of Jersey City is incredible. It is inspiring to see the innovative thinking, hard work and dedication that each of these businesses – and other businesses like them – devote to creating and maintaining successful enterprises,” Mayor Healy said. “Their efforts are the original „stimulus package,‟ and we thank them for the contributions they make to Jersey City‟s ongoing economic success. We are proud to have them here, and are happy to have this opportunity to display their products,” he said.

In researching “Made in Jersey City Day”, it was discovered that on June 5, 1916, then Jersey City Mayor Mark M. Fagan and Revenue & Finance Commissioner George Brensinger presided over ceremonies for the opening of “Made in Jersey City Week.”

“It‟s a great pleasure to be able to hold this event and to honor our area businesses. We all know that it is the smaller businesses that are the backbone of our economy, and yet they are too often overlooked,” said Eugene Nelson. He reminded that there are literally hundreds of innovative small businesses that have chosen to reside in Jersey City. “We have worked very hard to make Jersey City „business-friendly‟ for companies of all sizes, and we will ensure that those efforts continue to benefit our community,” Mr. Nelson said.

The seven companies  who participated in this year‟s event were:

• Magnets.Com, a leading producer of custom, high-quality promotional magnets;
• The Gran-Tea Company, an e-commerce enterprise that assembles customized gifts of tea in handcrafted boxes;
• Simmy’s Stitches, a non-profit organization that hand-crochets incubator blankets and other gifts to “hug” the world one stitch at a time;
• Body Café, a company that creates all-natural delights to beautify and heal skin;
• Innovative 5 Designs, maker of one-of-a-kind pillows fashioned with fabrics from all around the world;
• Lollibomb Beauty, all-natural custom-blended fragrances and cosmetics; and
• Greenpologie, one-of-a-kind, eco-friendly handcrafted jewelry.

was established in Jersey City in 1997 by owner and company president Erwin Metius. The Australian native, who now resides in Jersey City, found conditions here favorable for conducting business. Indeed, his company has grown to service 50,000 clients worldwide and employs eleven men and women (all of whom call Jersey City home!) in the manufacturing, order and fulfillment centers here in Jersey City.

The second annual fair was held yesterday On Saturday April 17 to entusiastic crowds  and  over 60 artists  selling  7500 or more items at Parlay Studio’s 161 2nd St., Downtown Jersey City.  Everything from  jewelry, leather goods, soaps, furniture, cakes, leather bags, paintings  and many other items were on display and being sold.

The doors opened at 11am and the event  ran until 6pm.

Besides the vendors, live entertainment was provided by  Kelly St. Patrick, Hezekiah Jones, Any Day Parade, Chrisitan Alessi, Land of the Look Behind

A portion of yesterday ‘s fair proceeds will go to Arts to Grow a non -profit organization which is dedicated to providing inner city children with a chance to explore the visual, literary and performing arts
