Curb your dog and your sense of humor this Fall as the Hoboken Comedy Festival takes over Hoboken, New Jersey for the Fifth year in a row to bring consummate funny makers and raise money for a local dog shelter.

Comedian and Dog Lover Dan Frigolette started the festival in 2010 with the hopes to bring Comedy to Hoboken for one laugh filled weekend in town. Since 2010 the Festival has exploded, with aspiring comedians submitting for the festival in the hundreds, and the event has grown from three days to seven in 2014.

The Festival takes place Monday September 29th through Sunday October 5th over ten shows with zero repeated comedians. Each show features its own amazing lineup of comedians. All told the event will showcase nearly 100 jesting giants.

Headliners this year include festival newbies: Carlos Mencia, Big Jay Oakerson, and Christian Finnegan along with Hoboken Comedy Festival veterans: Chuck Nice, Greer Barnes, Andrew Schulz, Chris Distefano, Mike Britt, and Keith Alberstadt. Not to mention, the arsenal of featuring comedians with resumes including tv appearances in the dozens.

For the third year in a row, Hoboken Comedy Festival has teamed up with the Liberty Humane Society, a dog shelter in Jersey City, NJ, which supports Low-Cost Veterinary Clinics and Dog and Cat Adoption Services for all of Hudson County. The Festival donates $1 per head directly to LHS, for each of the shows, and passes direct donation bins throughout performances to raise money for the charity. In addition, this year, the Hoboken Comedy Festival and Pier13 have teamed up to have an outdoor show with a suggested donation going directly to LHS.

For two years in a row the Festival has put together a comedian and dog photoshoot featuring famous comedians and adoptable dogs to help raise awareness for both events. Last year comedian and tv host of CBS Dogs in the City Justin Silver hosted Liberty Humane Societyâ€s â€œBark in the Parkâ€ as part of the partnership with the Hoboken Comedy Festival.

Shows take place in various venues throughout Hoboken, including the legendary Maxwellâ€s Tavern, which has reopened itâ€s doors and will bring comedy to their backroom for the first time since itâ€s ownership shift.

â€œWe are so happy to be the first comedic event at the new Maxwellâ€s Tavern,â€ says Frigolette, â€œthis venue was a huge part of our first three years in Hoboken, itâ€s only right that our joint history continues to grow.â€

Other venues in Hoboken include: Willie McBrideâ€s who will host three shows, and Tilted Kilt, The West Five, and Pilsener Haus Biergarten, all hosting one show.

Monday – Thursday shows will feature headliners from across the globe, and a handful of new talent acts vying to be asked to perform on the weekend show. One new talent comedian from each of the weekdays will be asked to perform on the weekend shows, and that one shine through talent from the weekend will open for Carlos Mencia on Sunday October 5th at the Pilsener Haus.

Monday through Sunday September 29th-October 5th shows will take place at 8pm with late night performances taking place on Friday and Saturday at 10:30pm. The fundraiser show will be dog-friendly and take place from 3pm to 6pm at Pier 13 on Saturday October 4th.

Bark in the Park: FUNDRAISER

Registration for Bark in the Park walkers is now open! Walkers can sign up individually, form teams, or fundraise as a “virtual walker” if you cannot attend the event.

Their Â goal this year is to raise $40,000–which Liberty Humane SocietyÂ Â is confident Â their supporters can helpÂ them achieve.

The initial registration fee is $25 a for single walker and $35 for a human plus one dog.

Not Yo Mama’s Fair Organizers, LLC (NYM) is an event planning company which coordinates craft fairs, based out of Jersey City, NJ. NYM was started in 2009 with the idea of bringing high end crafting into the mainstream and helping develop the business of thousands of artisan crafters.Â Not Yo Mama’s Fair Organizers, LLC partner with local community and art organizations to set up fairs and ultimately donate a portion of the proceeds to the partnering organization. Not Yo Mamaâ€s Fair vendors create a wide range of handmade goods; jewelry, handcrafted leather, stationary, original artwork, home goods as well as furniture. Currently run by artists Megan Gulick and Michelle Mumoli, NYM has 15 fairs scheduled from April through December of 2012, with as far a reach as Newark and Asbury Park.

LITM is a restaurant/lounge which houses an art gallery and has been a staple of the Downtown Jersey City art scene since 2003. LITM played host to the very first Not Yo Mamaâ€s Craft Fair in 2009.

A portion of the proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Liberty Humane Society (LHS), the partnering 501(c)(3) for the Not Yo Mamaâ€s Foolâ€s Fair.

Â LHS is the only non-profit animal shelter in Hudson County, providing animalÂ Â sheltering services to the cities of Jersey City and Hoboken, as well as animal control/rescue to Hoboken, Jersey City and Union City. They take in over 5,000 animals per year and believe that every pet deserves a second chance at finding a lifelong, loving home. For 10 years theyâ€ve been ensuring that stray animals have a place to stay, that cruelty and neglect donâ€t go unnoticed, and that people who canâ€t keep their pets have a place to turn to. With the help of their 800+ active volunteers, they welcome over 10,000 unique visitors per year through their tiny facility.

Their committed staff and over 800 dedicated volunteers work hard every day to facilitate the best possible life for the animals in residence at LHS. Their dogs receive more than 75 hours a month with trainers and animal behaviorists, and their cats are kept together in family units to decrease stress. Their low-cost Wellness Clinics provide affordable health care to keep pets in their homes, and their trained adoption counselors place thousands of animals in forever homes annually.

River View Observer’s May Best Bet for Singles

Liberty Humane SocietyÂ is thrilled to announce that they will be hosting their first singles event – “Single, Mingle, Bark!” It will be held on Friday, May 1 from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m at the Liberty Science Center! All singles and dogs welcome!

Cost for pre-registration will be $25 and $30 at the door. There will be wine tasting and light fare (nibbles), music and a silent auction. All proceeds from the event and the silent auction will benefit LHS and the Liberty Science Center.

This will be a great way to meet other single, dog lovers – though you don’t need to be single. Dress code is casual and will be held rain or shine.
