THREE WEEK SCHEDULE AS OF JUNE 23, 2017   The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:   Toll Plaza East side (entering 14A): renovation of existing Toll Utility Building continues. Ramps between the Toll Plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE) Local street level work at Garfield, Avenue C and JFK Boulevard bridges will resume in the summer of 2017. This work will be supported by Jersey City and Bayonne Police as needed. During the evenings of 06/29/17, 8:00PM to 5:00AM, traffic impacts are expected on the ramps to and from the Hudson County Extension and the Interchange 14A Toll Plaza for asphalt paving operations. This work will be supported by the New Jersey State Police.  Avenue E / Proposed Roundabout New roadway construction on Avenue E near 53rd Street continues. Connector Bridge (Bridge from the Toll Plaza to Port Jersey Boulevrd) Traffic was shifted onto the new Connector Bridge in a two-way temporary traffic pattern. Please CLICK HERE for graphic. During the week of 07/17/17, nighttime detours of the southbound Route 440 Jughandle at Pulaski Street will be required for approximately one (1) week in support of bridge steel erection. • Reconstruction of Toll Lanes 8-10 continues.
• During the weekend of 04/07/17, concrete pavement construction will be performed  in Toll Lanes 8, 9 & 10. At the end of this weekend, Toll Lanes 8, 9 & 10 will be reopened. This work will be supported by Bayonne and the NJ State Police.

Ramps between the Toll Plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE)

• Widening construction on the ramps to and from the westbound and eastbound HCE is complete to the extent possible and the final alignment has been implemented. Asphalt resurfacing of the ramps will be performed in 2017.
• Local street level work at Garfield, Avenue C and JFK Boulevard bridges will resume in the Spring of 2017. This work will be supported by Jersey City and Bayonne Police as needed.

Avenue E / Proposed Roundabout

• New roadway construction on Avenue E near 53rd Street continues. 
• Deep bridge foundation construction in dedicated work zones continues. This work will be supported by Bayonne Police as needed.
• New bridge pier construction in dedicated work zones continues.

Connector Bridge (Bridge from the Toll Plaza to Port Jersey Boulevard)

• Traffic was shifted onto the new Connector Bridge in a two-way temporary traffic pattern. Please CLICK HERE for graphic.

• During the weekend of 05/05/17 and 05/12/17, new bridge steel installation operations will be performed over NJ Transit’s Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and Conrail’s Industrial Track. During these periods, NJ Transit Light Rail service between 34th Street Station in Bayonne and Danforth Avenue Station in Jersey City will be maintained via NJ Transit bus service. 

Route 440 and Pulaski Street Intersection / Jughandle

• Ramp roadway construction continues.
• Median barrier construction on Route 440 continues.
• Ramp structure construction to southbound Route 440 continues.
• During the week of 04/24/17, northbound Route 440 traffic will be shifted left (two northbound lanes adjacent to median) and a work zone will be established on the right.

Ramp Area East of Route 440

• New ramp construction continues.
• Retaining wall construction continues.
• Bridge deck construction on the bridge structure over Pulaski Street continues.
• Roadway construction continues.

14A Traffic Advisory: Weekend of January 28, 2017 On Saturday, 01/28/17, 12:01AM to 4:00PM, the southbound Route 440 Jughandle at Pulaski Street will be closed for bridge demolition operations. Jughandle traffic will be detoured to the Prospect Avenue and 32nd Street Jughandle. Work will be supported by Bayonne Police.    NOTE:  Previously forecasted disruptions during the weekend of 01/28/17 to NJ Transit’s Hudson-Bergen Light Rail services between 34th Street station in Bayonne and Danforth Avenue station in Jersey City will not be realized. Light Rail train service will not be impacted during this weekend. Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and its contractors have provided updated information about the construction around the Exit 14A toll plaza.  The news items in this update cover activities through mid-December 2016.

In the toll plaza, renovation of the existing toll utility building continues.  Reconstruction continues on Lanes 11 and 12. 

On the ramps between the toll plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE), during the week of December 12, sign structures near the corner of Avenue B and 58^th Street, the corner of Avenue C structure and Garfield Avenue structure (by the PSE&G sub-station) will be installed at night from the Turnpike roadway.  Also during the week of December 12, the new variable message signs spanning the Newark Bay Bridge will be installed at night with other sign structure installations.

At the northern end of Avenue E, in the area of the roundabout, during the weekend of December 9, traffic will be shifted from the old connector bridge to the new connector bridge and connector ramps.  Traffic to the toll plaza from Port Jersey Boulevard may be diverted to Interchange 14B from Friday, December 9, at 8:00 p.m., to Sunday, December 11, at 2:00 p.m., to accommodate the traffic shift. During the week of December 12, bridge demolition operation will resume in the former Daibies gas station area across from East 51^st Street.  During the weekend of December 16, northbound Avenue E traffic will be detoured to a temporary alignment in the old Daibies property area.  Bridge demolition will take place over northbound Avenue E and the roundabout.  During the week of December 19, deep foundation drilling will resume for new bridge piers (columns).

On the new connector bridge between the toll plaza and Port Jersey Boulevard, new bridge deck construction is continuing.

Please be advised that pedestrian usage of the connector bridge for access to and from Port Jersey Boulevard continues to be prohibited.  In order to assist the public during construction, a shuttle bus service will be available from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.weekdays with bus stops at Broadway & 55th Street, as well as Industrial Avenue and Port Jersey Boulevard.

At the intersection of Route 440 and Pulaski Street, ramp roadway construction is proceeding.  Bridge pier (column) construction is continuing in the Route 440 median.
