Police Chief Ken Ferrante, Mayor Ravi Bhalla, and the City of Hoboken invite all members of the community to attend a swearing-in ceremony for six new Police Officers. The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 12:00pm in the Court Room at Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington Street.

Historic Preservation community meeting

Hoboken residents are invited to a community meeting on Thursday, December 13 at 7:00 pm at City Hall (94 Washington Street, lower level conference room) to discuss the Hoboken Historic District Intensive-Level Architectural Survey being conducted by the New Jersey State Historic Preservation Office (NJ HPO) with support from the Hoboken Historic Preservation Commission (HPC).  The survey is an in-depth review of 1,600 properties located in the State designated National Register-eligible (NR-eligible) historic district.
 
The purpose of this survey is to document properties associated with the NR-eligible historic district as part of a comprehensive assessment to promote a more holistic understanding of the district within its urban context and support informed decision-making for land use, zoning, and historic designation by the local government. The survey was initiated in October and completed on November 19^th. During that time, AECOM architectural historians documented and photographed nearly 1,600 properties and assessed whether or not the properties contribute to the NR-eligible historic district.
 
The project utilizes United States Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding.  A better understanding of the historic resources that make up the historic district, and a better understanding of the districtâ€s current boundaries, will enhance the abilities of the HPC and NJ HPO to prepare for, and recover from, future storm events.
 
AECOM architectural historians contracted by the State of New Jersey will present the survey progress and address the integration of resiliency planning into modern preservation assessments. Community input is welcomed.
 
Attendees are asked to use the side entrance on Newark Street.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has announced that an arrest warrant has been issued in connection with the January 24, 2017 murder of Adrian Rivera of Hoboken.

Keyshaun Wiggins, age 18, of Jersey City has been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.2C:11-3; two counts of Felony Murder in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-3; Armed Robbery in violation of N.J.S. 2C:15-1; Armed Burglary in violation of N.J.S. 2C:18-2; Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-4; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-5; and Hindering Apprehension in violation of N.J.S.2C:29-3.

Anyone with information as to the current whereabouts of Keyshaun Wiggins is asked to contact the Hudson County Prosecutorâ€s Office Homicide Unit at (201) 915-1345 or leave an anonymous tip on the Hudson County Prosecutorâ€s Office official website at http://www.hudsoncountyprosecutorsofficenj.org/homicide-tip/. All information will be kept confidential. Wiggins should not be approached and he should be considered armed and dangerous.

On January 24, 2017, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Hoboken Police Officers were dispatched to 300 Marshall Drive in Hoboken on a 911 call of possible gun shots in the area. Upon arrival officers found the victim in an apartment at that location with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso.

Rivera, who lived in the apartment, was immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center by ambulance. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at approximately 3:50 p.m.

On Wednesday, January 25, 2017, Khalif Geiger, age 20, of Jersey City and a 17-year-old juvenile from Jersey City were arrested for the murder of Rivera by detectives from the Hudson County Prosecutorâ€s Office Homicide Unit and the Hoboken Police Department. They were each charged with Murder, two counts of Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, Armed Burglary, Hindering Apprehension and several Firearm offenses.

The Prosecutorâ€s Homicide Unit continues to actively investigate this case with assistance from the Hoboken Police Department.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent untilproven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).

By incorporating green infrastructure and underground detention systems to capture more than 450,000 gallons of stormwater runoff, the resiliency park is designed to help address flooding issues. It is the second of three resiliency parks planned for western Hoboken, in addition to the Southwest Park which is under construction and the Northwest Park, which is in the planning stage.

Approximately 1 acre of the park will consist of an open grass area with public seating and a childrenâ€s play area. An additional 1 acre public plaza will feature step seating with a tilted lawn panel for relaxing and passive gatherings and a large plaza area designed to accommodate vendors and seasonal markets. Finally, the plan will feature a 6,835 square foot multi-use public gymnasium with a classic field house design.

The project will also include approximately 30,000 square feet of retail space, an on-site parking garage, and 424 residential units, including 42 units of affordable housing.
