October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

HOBOKEN, NJ – October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Exchange Physical Therapy Group (EPTG), an innovative outpatient physical therapy group with locations throughout Hudson County, is proud to announce its upcoming fundraising event to support Let’s Save Ma, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness.

The Healthy Living Event Creates a Safe and Welcoming Environment for Lesbian, Bisexual, Cis and Trans Women; Event includes Health Screenings, Resources, Yoga, Meditation and More

HOBOKEN – CarePoint Health and Hoboken University Medical Center are partnering with Hudson Pride Center to host the “Every Woman Wellness Event” – a healthy living event for lesbian, bisexual, cis and trans women.

The event, part of a series of programming for Hudson County Pride Month, will be held 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at The Institute for Womenâ€s Health, on the first floor of the hospital at 308 Willow Ave.

In addition to gynecological exams and screenings for blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol, there will be womenâ€s safe sex health resources, holistic healing sessions such as yoga and meditation, booths featuring local businesses and organizations, as well as food, music and prizes.

Any woman wishing to schedule an appointment for a wellness-gynecological exam should call the concierge team at 201-884-5329. Walk-ins are also welcome.

“The Every Woman Wellness Event is a natural progression in CarePointâ€s relationship with Hudson Pride,” said Dr. Meika Roberson, Chief Medical Officer at Hoboken University Medical Center. “We want to reduce barriers and create an inclusive and affirming environment so that LGBT people feel safe in a space where they are getting healthcare.”

Earlier this year, CarePoint Health announced a new partnership with Hudson Pride Center to expand access for the LGBTQ+ community to healthcare. Through the partnership, CarePoint has launched an LGBTQ+ employee and ally group, CarePoint Pride, has completed PrEP training for doctors, are educating hospital staff on LGBTQ issues, and physicians and support staff participated in a camp for transgendered youth. Hudson Pride Center has also temporarily relocated its offices to Christ Hospital in Jersey City until it moves to its new, permanent home in downtown Jersey City.

“Lesbian and bisexual cis and transgender women often encounter barriers to healthcare due to concerns about confidentiality, discriminatory attitudes or treatment, limited access to care or insurance, and a limited understanding of what their specific health risks are,” said Elizabeth Schedl, Chief Operations Officer of Hudson Pride Center. “The development of womenâ€s health programs, such as the Every Women Event, not only highlights and creates awareness of lesbian and bisexual womenâ€s health risks and needs, but also serves to provide care for both cis and transgender women. JERSEY CITY – Representatives of Christ Hospital, the Moâ€Hair Foundation of Jersey City and local elected officials cut the ribbon Friday on the new Moâ€Hair Foundation Salon at Christ Hospital. The
Moâ€Hair Foundation is a Jersey City-based non-profit organization that provides free non-surgical hair replacement for cancer patients and other individuals who have lost their hair as a result of their
medical treatment.The Moâ€Hair Foundation office and salon is located on the hospitalâ€s third floor, next to the Infusion Center. The foundation will also be working with patients on confidence building and self-esteem.

Among those attending the June 22 celebration were Moâ€Hair Foundation Founder and CEO Monique Smith Andrews, CarePoint Health Chief Executive Officer Dr. Natasha Deckmann and Christ Hospital Chief Hospital Executive Marie Duffy.

“We are honored to partner with the Moâ€Hair Foundation to bring this important service to those individuals who need it most,” said Dr. Natasha Deckmann, Chief Executive Officer for CarePoint
Health. “We are constantly working to foster partnerships such as this to help us deliver the highest quality of healthcare to the community as well as added services that improve our patients†overall experience.”

Christ Hospital is one of New Jerseyâ€s largest charity-care providers and as such, many of the patients receiving cancer treatment may not be able to afford non-surgical hair replacement on their
own.

Previously, the Moâ€Hair Foundation performed its services for the community at Smith Andrews†hair salon in Jersey City. The new Christ-hospital location offers patients greater access as well as
increased privacy, while reaching an even greater population. Smith Andrews welcomes the opportunity to be closer to the patients that benefit from her good work.

“This will help us to do what we do for even more people and have a greater impact,” said Smith Andrews. “One of the best aspects of this is that it is therapeutic for them. And now they wonâ€t have to
go too far to receive this service.”

Smith Andrews has been performing the free temporary hair replacement service since 2009, helping service since 2009, helping
more than 100 people thus far.

Free “Lunch & Learn Series” Focuses on Healthy Nutrition to help Senior Citizens Live Longer, Healthier Lives

March is National Nutrition Month and CarePoint Health is teaming up with AngelaCARES Inc. and Inserra ShopRite to help educate over 100 local senior citizens about steps they can take to improve their health through better nutrition to lead longer, healthier lives through a free seminar as part of its Lunch & Learn Series at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 23 at The Bethune Center at 140 MLK Drive.

 The seminar, which is free and open to the public, will include a healthy lunch provided by CarePoint Health and Inserra ShopRite nutritionist Lynette Hem-Lee will discuss such topics as how to eat and live healthy, reduce cholesterol, manage diabetes, boost energy and strengthen the immune system, improve skin conditions and think more clearly.

“March is National Nutrition Month and we wanted to find a way to bring valuable nutrition tips to the seniors in our community,” said Angela McKnight, founder and CEO of the non-profit organization AngelaCARES Inc. “This seminar will help over 100 seniors better understand how nutrition can help ease some of their health conditions and some of the simple things they can do to live a healthier and longer life.  We are thankful to CarePoint Health and Inserra ShopRite for donating their time and services to make this event a success.”

National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. 

Lynette Hem-Lee, RDN, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with Inserra ShopRite, will feature the Lunch & Learn workshop around “Slowing the Aging Process,” which will focus on important nutrients and their role in metabolism.  This information which will be presented in an easy fun filled format with examples and participants will gain a better understanding of the importance of a variety of healthier food options to promote long life, or manage certain illnesses.

The students are members of the Bayonne Junior Chamber of Commerce, a collaborative venture between the Bayonne Chamber of Commerce and the Bayonne School District. The program is supported by CarePoint Health and other chamber members.

The workshop was held in the Bayonne High Library on Jan. 18, and was facilitated by representatives of CarePoint Health at Bayonne Medical Center and Bayonne Community Bank.

At the event, students learned everything from a proper business handshake to how to prepare for an interview. Small-group breakout sessions and role-play interviews were held. Students also received feedback about their resumes and were instructed about what to do once they landed their ideal internship or job.

“This work is something they can build upon as they gain experience to position themselves for success in any area of the job market or business field,” said Catherine Shull Fernald, MSN, RNC-OB, NEA-BC, Chief Operating Officer, CarePoint Health at Bayonne Medical Center.

Also attending were Chamber of Commerce President Matt Dorans and Chamber Board Trustee Capt. Thomas Hinderhofer of Port Liberty Cruise Port. Representing the Bayonne Board of Education were BHS Principal Richard Baccarella and teachers Irene Pyke and Leigh Schaefer, who work with the program.

Dorans said the event was important for the students.

“The students were focused, engaged and very prepared for the workshop,” Dorans said. â€œWith this resource, they will have an edge over their peers in securing jobs in the future.”

On Sat, June 6, 11 am-7 pm, and Sun, June 7, 12-6 pm, 22^nd to 24^th Streets (along Del Monte Drive) in Bayonne will be packed with more than 60 vendors and non-profits, childrenâ€s rides, games and plenty of entertainment. A soundstage will be set up in the parking lot in front of the Polish American Club, and Kiddie Town near the Mini Golf Course will attract kids of all ages.

How good is your pitching arm? Find out at the Dunk Tank where a good pitch will drop a local official into a tank of water – all for a good cause. Music, comedy, even a belly dancer are all part of the entertainment that will be on the soundstage on Del Monte Drive. And thereâ€s nothing like the view of Bayonne from atop the 55-foot Ferris wheel. Food vendors, face-painters, inflatable rides and Boy Scouts who offer free demonstrations will all be part of the fun.
