In Hudson County, we all know public art effects culture in ways far greater than the purse, and now Atlantic City’s community stakeholders, both public and private are sending a message. Art and culture can expose the elusive quality of place by positively influencing a neighborhood and a city. Earlier today at an exciting and inspiring event at Lance Fung’s SOHO loft.  The Atlantic City Alliance (ACA) a newly formed non profit, has hired Lance and his group, Fung Collaboratives, to transform Atlantic City. They will collaborate to turn many entire vacant lots into commissioned works of art or as Lance describes them, magical green spaces. It’s amazing that in this economy the ACA holds, that for this country’s cities, right now art and culture are key. As daring a collaborationist as ever, Lance will triangulate Atla ntic City with an exquisite 5 year long public art exhibition that will complete this message. JERSEY CITY :POLICE ID SHOOTER; WANT PUBLIC’S HELP -Gunman’s Shots Went Through Van with Kids

JERSEY CITY- Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and police department officials are seeking help from the public in the capture of a gunman believed responsible for firing errant rounds into a van with children outside a church.

Police have identified Bahiem “Buddha” Shuler, who is considered to be armed and dangerous, and is wanted for his role in a May 22, 2012 shootout on Forrest Street where stray bullets struck a church van filled with children. None of the children were injured.

“This vicious and violent criminality will never be tolerated,” said Mayor Healy. “Fortunately, no harm came to those children or any other innocent bystanders. The Police have had measureable success in stopping crime in troubled sectors and rest assured they will aggressively pursue this suspect and anyone linked to this incident or anyone who threatens the lives and safety of our law abiding citizens.”

Shortly after the shooting one man, Darion Pinkney, 20, was arrested nearby while in possession of a loaded firearm. Pinkney was charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses. Once in custody, Shuler will be charged similarly.

Shuler, 27, who has prior convictions for weapons and illegal drug charges, was last known to reside in Jersey City and was a frequent visitor to the Forrest Street area. Anyone with information is urged to call police at the Major Case Unit 201-547-5383, 201-547-4664.

Newark, N.J. — June 6, 2012 — High school can be difficult. Peer pressure, teachers, reports, final exams, school activities and the desire for academic excellence can make life for a high school student quite overwhelming at times. With finals starting in the next week or so, the NJ Poison Experts encourage parents of high school students to talk to their children about the dangers of study drugs (e.g. prescription medicines for ADHD and caffeine) and the symptoms they may cause.

 Study drugs are drugs that are misused/abused as study aids. Students often believe that these drugs enhance or focus concentration and increase stamina when they cram for tests or write lengthy papers. The use of study drugs is not new. For years, students have looked for ways to make studying easier, more efficient and more manageable. The drugs of choice are prescription stimulants (amphetamine derivates) and caffeine. SPACE SHUTTLE ENTERPRISE SITS IN BAYONNE WAITING FOR ITS TRIP TO PORT ELIZABETH

The Space Shuttle will sit at Weeks until Tuesday morning then transferred by Barge to Port Elizabeth before its last journey to The Intrepid Sea,  Air and Space Museum  in New York   where it will be permanently on display.

JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY (May 31, 2012) AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s (AHF) ‘Condom-Nation’ tour—AHF’s specially-designed 70-foot long, 18 wheel ‘Condom Nation’ big rig truck and a companion ‘Condom Nation’ Sprinter van arrives in Jersey City, New Jersey—a stop on the ‘Condom Nation Tour’–a groundbreaking 25-state, 40-city, six-month nationwide tour to select cities, towns and states to hand out ten million free condoms and provide safer sex information in conjunction with local partners. ‘Condom Nation’ was launched from the famed Boardwalk in Venice Beach, California as part of AHF’s worldwide observation of International Condom Day—an informal holiday observed annually on February 13th in conjunction with Valentine’s Day. Smith announced that McLoone’s Bayonne Grille, the restaurant that will open at Winners, the new off-track wagering facility, will have a job fair at City Hall on Wednesday, June 6, and Thursday, June 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. McLoone’s will accept resumes in the City Council Chambers on both days. McLoone’s representatives will be on hand to meet applicants. City Hall is located at 630 Avenue C, between 27th and 28th Streets. The Council Chambers are located on the first floor. Jersey City’s Liberty Science Center and Google team up to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Rubik’s cube, the world’s best-selling puzzle, with a major international exhibition.

On the 40th anniversary of the Cube’s invention (April 2014) the interactive Rubik’s Cube Exhibition, which explores the interplay of design, engineering, mathematics, and creativity, will open at Liberty Science Center. It will remain at the Center for six months and then travel around the world to art museums, science centers, and alternative exhibit spaces for up to seven years.

The exhibition will include a working Rubik’s Cube made from $2.5 million worth of diamonds; elaborate Cube artwork; Cube-solving robots; virtual reality simulations of Cubes that aren’t really there; a glowing 35-foot-tall Rubik’s Cube that can be manipulated by anyone with an Internet connection; and a tiny nanoscale Cube.

Google will be the creative partner of the Rubik’s Cube Exhibition and will join LSC in presenting a stunning digital and in-person experience. “At Google, we are all about tackling tough challenges with as much accuracy and speed as possible,” said Lorraine Twohill, head of Global Marketing at Google. “The Rubik’s Cube embodies this drive, encouraging people around the world to try their hand at one of the world’s most iconic toys. We are happy to contribute to Liberty Science Center’s worldwide effort to use the Cube to get children excited about science, technology, engineering and math.”
