BAYONNE-The Broadway Shopping District – Shopping, Dining, & Fun

Starting this past July 1st, the Bayonne Urban Enterprise Zone Board has assumed the management of the Bayonne Special Improvement District (Bayonne SID), which extends from 17th to 30th Streets on Broadway. This change in management occurred as part of Mayor Mark A. Smith’s effort to make government more efficient and accountable. By moving the management of the Bayonne SID to the UEZ Board, more of the tax monies that are assessed on the businesses in the district will be spent on efforts to improve the district as opposed to office expenses and overhead. Mayor Smith recognizes the importance of a thriving downtown shopping district and is committed to working towards the goal of making Broadway a destination for families to shop and dine.

The district already has a nine-hole miniature golf course that has recently been upgraded. With special thanks to Lauren Dellabella, a successful farmer’s market has been added to the district every Tuesday from 2pm to 7pm until the end of October. The farmer’s market continues to grow and attracts over 600 people each Tuesday.

Additionally, during the past two months the Bayonne SID and the Bayonne UEZ have hosted various events each Saturday. Activities such as face painting, balloon sculpturing, caricaturist drawings, sand art, and strolling costumed characters have been located throughout the district. Over a thousand children have enjoyed these fun-filled events.

The Bayonne SID will continue its efforts to make Broadway attractive for families. Several fun events are already being planned for the upcoming holiday season.

In its dual mission to attract both new businesses and new consumers to Broadway, the Bayonne SID will always remember that at its heart Broadway should always be a place where our residents happily choose to shop, dine, or simply take a stroll. So bring your children for a round of golf, bring your spouse to the farmer’s market, or bring your son or granddaughter to have their face painted. Our merchants are ready to serve you, and Broadway is and always will be part of your community.
