This is welcoming news wether you are an old time resident (our family has been living in the downtown Jersey City area for over 90 years)  or just recently moved to  Jersey City.

Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy is proud to announce that Jersey City Ranks #13 for Best Place to Raise a Family according to Children’s Health magazine’s 100 List.
According to Children’s Health magazine, Jersey City has been named one of the top places in America to raise a family.

The editors of Children’s Health magazine conducted a nation-wide survey in search of safe, nurturing, stimulating, and economically sound communities. They looked for neighborhoods that would reflect the values of education, health and fitness, and a concern for the environment in which to raise their children.
Children’s Health then embarked on a comprehensive statistical analysis to rank 100 noteworthy American cities scattered across the country, considering more than 30 factors and using 29 quality of life variables that parents consider to be vitally important. These variables included crime and safety, education, economics, housing, cultural attractions and health. The editors compiled statistics from the most authoritative sources in the country including the Centers for Disease Control, the FBI, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and a wide variety of independent experts. They concluded that among the cities surveyed that Jersey City ranked number 13 on the list in the nation for communities that best complemented family life.
“This administration and the City Council work tirelessly to improve the quality of life in our City and we are glad to see our efforts be recognized,” said Mayor Healy. “I am proud of our diversity and progress. From art and culture to recreational activities and leisure past times, we have hundreds of things for families to do. Jersey City has great parks, restaurants, shops, and wonderful neighborhoods that continue to attract families here all the time.”
Children’s Health magazine, a special newsstand issue published by Rodale Inc., focuses on health, nutrition and educational guidance for parents of babies, toddlers and older children. It is the result of a first-of-its-kind partnership between the editors of Rodale’s Men’s Health and Women’s Health magazines.
Sponsors of the issue include General Mills, P&G, Ralph Lauren and Vtech. With the publication of this issue, Rodale will be making a donation to various charities that support children’s health including Give the Kids the World and Save the Children.
“I am proud to boast that this survey only confirms what we already know – that Jersey City is the ideal place to work, live and raise a family,” continued Mayor Healy. “If you haven’t already visited us, I invite you to see all that our great city has to offer.”
