Dance the Night Away at May 10th Library Foundation Fundraiser, “Oldies But Goodies”

JERSEY CITY, NJ   March 23, 2012 – Gone is the staid demeanor one might find from attendees at the major fundraiser for the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation. Welcome to the free-spirited character (or, characters?!) – known to dance, non-stop, at the fall fundraiser –  to this year’s spring fundraiser.

The Library Foundation Board of Trustees welcomes you to the 9th annual Library Foundation fundraiser, Oldies But Goodies, to be held on Thursday, May 10th, from 6 to 10 p.m., at Michael Anthony’s restaurant, 502 Washington Boulevard in Jersey City.

Two newly created awards will be given out: Helena Ruman, AIA, PE, will receive the Humanitarian Award, for her architectural sensitivity when designing and rehabilitating historic structures. Mrs. Ruman designed the Glenn D. Cunningham Branch Library & Community Center, which opened in August 2004, and has worked on renovating and upgrading the Miller and Pavonia branches, as well as the Main Library. Franklin Walker, who will receive the Educator Award, currently is Interim Superintendent of Schools for the City of Jersey City. Both résumés are attached.

All proceeds received now are dedicated to the renovation of our historic Main Library. Previously, donations helped purchase and install security cameras throughout the library system, in order to create a safe environment for all library users and our staff, and to purchase, in full, a state-of-the-art, custom-designed and -built Bookmobile.

Put on your dancin’ shoes! Come celebrate Helena Ruman and Franklin Walker, and support the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation. With non-stop music from a live band – starting from the 50s, and working our way up – how can you resist? The ever-popular Silent Auction will be featured, as well.

Tickets are $100 (food and drinks, included) and can be purchased from Library administration and Foundation Trustees. Make checks payable to: Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation, Inc. Mail checks to: Priscilla Gardner, Executive Director, Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation, Inc., 472 Jersey Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07302.
