Patricia Bossert was presented with a Merit Award for her artwork in the 21st Annual Emerging Artists Exhibit sponsored by the Art Administrators of New Jersey. This exhibit featured artwork produced by students who are studying art in high schools throughout the state of New Jersey.
Patricia, a senior at BHS and Computer Graphics student of Mrs. Charlann Meluso, won her award for her image titled “Psychedelic Vision”. It was a computer altered digital color photograph of Patricia wearing a pair of large glasses with duplicate images of herself repeated within the lenses.
Chloe DeFilippis, a Photography student of Mr. Thomas Hart and Anthony Linardi, a Fine Arts student of Mrs. Christina Poruczynski also had their artwork on display at the exhibition.
Patricia and other awards recipients are eligible to submit a portfolio of images and compete in the Art Administrators’ Achievement Award in which one student will be selected to receive an additional cash recognition and a Governor’s Award in the spring.
The art exhibit was held at the James Howe Gallery at Kean College from January 9 to February 8, 2009, with the awards reception on Sunday, February 8. This year’s show included work from 60 students from 32 high schools in 24 districts throughout New Jersey. The annual art exhibit was initiated in 1968 in an effort to recognize the outstanding achievements of New Jersey high school students in the area of visual arts, and to heighten public awareness of art education programs in the state.
Joan H. Rosen, Director of Music and Art had this to say: “I am so proud of the work of our students and I am pleased that through my affiliation with the AANJ our students can reach this honor that has been likened to a Visual Arts All-State Competition”.
