Jersey City Youth Foundation and the Board of Education 2014-2015 School Year Backpack Giveaway of 10,000 Free Backpacks for K-8 Students

Mayor Steven Fulop’s Jersey City Youth Foundation and the Board of Education Collaborate to offer free backpacks filled with school supplies

 Jersey City, NJ – The Jersey City Youth Foundation is pleased to announce that it’s collaboration with the Board of Education this summer ensures that 10,000 K-8 students in need will have an opportunity to receive a free backpack filled with school supplies.

 The JCYF is committed to enhancing community enrichment programs and increasing school and community connectedness.  Our collaboration with the BOE and our entire Jersey City community ensures everyone can participate. 

 How you can help:

 Volunteers are needed to stuff backpacks with school supplies the week of August 18th.  Please visit our website for updates on when and where the backpack stuffing will take place.

  • Supplies are needed from both individuals and businesses looking to partner with us.

ü  School Supplies Needed:  Composition Notebooks, Loose-leaf Paper , Rulers, #2 Pencils, Glue Sticks, Boxes of Washable Markers, Boxes of Crayons, Erasers, 2-Pocket Folders, Highlighters, Spiral Notebooks, Scissors, Packages of Index Cards, 3-Ring Binders

  • Financial Donations are needed.  Interested donors can make check donations payable and sent to the Jersey City Youth Foundation, 230 7th Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302, with “2014 JCYF Backpack Program” on the memo line.  Please contact us if an invoice is required.

 Parents who are interested in receiving the free backpacks for their children are requested to contact their guidance counselor or principal at their child’s school before June 26, 2014. You will be able to bring your child to their school the week of August 25, 2014 to collect their backpack.  Please note that quantities are limited, so not everyone who registers will receive a backpack.
