“This is the hour when we choose our future. I’m Jon Huntsman and I’m running for president of the United States,” with those words  Former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman announced on Tuesday, June 21st, at Liberty State Park in Jersey City his candidacy for President in the 2012 race thus becoming one more Republican contender to join the race for the White House. Liberty State Park is also the location chosen by  former President Ronald Reagan to announce his bid for President in 1980. 

Huntsman  was President Obama’s Amabassdor to China until this past spring.

Sean Hannity from Fox’s Hannity’s America was on hand to interview Huntsman. When asked by Hannity why the former Utah Governor and Ambassador to China decided to enter the race;  Huntsman said, “Because I love my country. And I can’t stomach the thought that we are passing down to the next generation, a country that is less viable, less good, less competitive, less compassionate than the one we got. You have a choice then, you can either stand on the sidelines or you can do as Teddy Roosevelt used to preach, and you can get in the arena and do something about it.”

On Sunday June 12th the 65th Annual Tony Awards were held at the Beacon Theater and our Photographer Steve Mack was there to capture all the excitement.
Hudson County Nominee Tammy Blanchard arrived at the Red Carpet as did Al Puccino, Christie Brinkley, Lynn Redgrave, Kelsey Grammer, Brooke Shields, John Legusiamo, and others.

Enzo Palumbo A 32-year-old insurance adjuster from Bayonne, New Jersey just might have the Hudson County street smarts to stick around to the very end on CBS’s Big Brother and come back to Bayonne with the prize.

Never having watched CBS’s Big Brother in all the years it has been on the air, I became interested when my children told me that a guy they know well, and went to school with from Bayonne was a contestant on the show.  After watching several episodes I have become hooked. Maybe it’s this Palumbo guy he reminds me of all the guys I grew up with in downtown Jersey City and still know today. Jersey cool, laid back, popular, unruffled, low key, charismatic, astute, shrewd and street smart.  Charastertics I believe that can get him to the finish.

 
 Big Brother fanatics tell me Palumbo is the most outspoken member ever on any of the Big Brother seasons. Yet he has managed to make it to the final four. His ability to stay well liked while deception abounds throughout the house is a testament to his street smarts. On the streets, friends, are very important to your survival. Palumbo, early on formed an alliance – the Brigade Alliance with  three other house guests  who have remained loyal and strong to each other : Matt Hoffman,(who has now gone on to the Jury House) he tried to break the Alliance and was sent packing by the other members of the Alliance; Hayden Moss and Lane Elenburg who are now in the final four with Palumbo and the only woman left Britney Haynes.  And while maintaing a very low profile Palumbo has managed to employ some side alliances away from the Brigade. That’s a street smart move – keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer. Palumbo has faced eviction on two occasions  but managed to  save himself by winning the Power of Veto and removing himself from the block in last weeks episode.

This week and next will determine just how smart Palumbo can play the game, and will he come back to Bayonne a winner. If Palumbo makes it to the final two he’s liked enough to have the recent evicted contestants vote him the winner. In the eyes of the other final four contestants: Hayden, Lane and Brittney that makes Palumbo dangerous to their game which should make for good television  as we watch the Brigade Alliance come apart.

The two-hour finale will air Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m.

Enzo Palumbo and his wife Joella have one daughter Gia. They would love to have another child “right away” if Palumbo can win the $500,000 prize from the show.

An Amber Alert has been issued for 8 year old Terry Dusseault Jr. who was taken by his father Terry Dusseault Jr. a registered sex-offender according to police in Burlington County, New Jersey.

 38-year-old Terry Dusseault according to state police, took his 8-year-old son, Terry Dusseault Jr., sometime Tuesday from a residence on the 300 block of Canal Circle in Lumberton New Jersey.

The father was described as being a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 210 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo on his left arm of “NY,” and a tattoo on his upper chest with the words “Schaney.”

He was last seen wearing tan short sleeve shirt and khaki shorts and was driving a black 2001 Hyundai Sante Fe registered to his girlfriend with New Jersey plates of LXB61U.

The son was described as being 4 feet 8 inches tall, 80 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.

Now with all due respect to Discovery Communications TLC”s parent company, the  creators of Cake Boss-Shouldn’t the first thing you do when you take a name for a business  is do a simple  search for that name before deciding to use that name ? Especially in the Internet age. Especially for a high budget reality show like Cake Boss.   It  seems  Discovery Communications didn’t think they had to or it wouldn’t matter,  and now a  Seatle software company: Masters Software Inc; has come foreward to say that they own the name Cake Boss having used it  two years before the show ever hit the airways  to market a business management software for professional cake bakers called CakeBoss.

Seatle Judge Richard A. Jones   ruled on July 16th, 2010 in Masters Software Inc’s favor and granted a preliminary injunciton which bars Discovery Communications, TLC’s parent company, from using the name at the end of the third season pending a future trial. And that also means the name cannot be used on any associate merchandising.

Buddy Valastro known to millions of fans (which all seem to be waiting on line  everyday in front of Carlo’s bakery in Hoboken,) can’t be called the Cake Boss any longer? That’s like not being able to call Alex Rodriquez of the Yankees A-Rod or  Donald Trump the Donald. Everyone knows Mr. Valastro as the Cake Boss. Especially here in Hudson County-Cake Boss country.

Take a drive down Hoboken’s Washington Street and there are banners on every corner declaring Hoboken as home of the Cake Boss. What do we do with the Banners?

Cake Boss” premiered on TLC in April 2009. Masters Software co- owners Jon and Kelly Masters began marketing their Cake Boss software in 2007. When in court Kelly Masters stated that she contacted Discovery Communications when the show was first announced it would air Cake Boss  in 2009 and Discovery Communications declined to change the name stating that  no one would confuse the Cake Boss show with Masters’ Cake Boss software.  

She also stated that as a result of the show’s  success fans of the show began to contact Kelly and Jon Masters website www.cakeboss.com  asking for custom cakes to be made from Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken. She further acknowledged that all though it brought increased traffic to their site it was annoying. Judge Jones also acknowledged that the Masters Software Inc Cake Boss site was  gaining favor from the shows success.

Our company had a similar problem five years ago  when we called our Bayonne Observer website www.insidebayonne.com we were contacted by representatives of  ebay claming we couldn’t use the site because the word ebay was clearly  spelled out in the middle of our websites name www.insidebayonne.com

We assured the representative for ebay that the name of our site was promoting the city of Bayonne, New Jersey and that it was a coincidence that the name ebay was spelled out and also that  the city of Bayonne was in existence much longer than ebay and we would not be changing our websites name.  Nor would we be selling and auctioning off  merchandise on our site. After careful review they agreed and said it would be fine to continue to use our name www.insidebayonne.com.

We were shocked to have even heard from ebay thinking how did a big company like ebay  know who  we were? We were told by a ebay representative that whenever a website is registerd and if  ebay appears anywhere within a websites name -they find out.

In Discovery Channel’s case the Master’s told them they had a software product named Cake Boss  and they did nothing. Even Judge Jones stated in the court that they should of conducted a simple search. In no way are we knocking Discovery Communications decision to not change the name in 2009, that was their decision to make  but come on guys -look at the end result.  Buddy Valastro is the Cake Boss, not Cup Cake, Cake Primo or Top Cake or Birthday Cake Boss or Choclate Cake Guy .

So what happens now?  What name do they call the Cake Boss show and  for that matter Buddy Valastro? Everyone knows him as the Cake Boss.
