In this exhibition, internationally renowned fiber artist Xenobia Bailey collaborates with several artists and designers to transform the museum’s Project Gallery into an intimate and enchanting environment which the artist calls an “urban tea ceremony with a twist”.

The installation features many of Bailey’s signature hand-crocheted and embroidered pieces. In addition to Bailey’s intricate tapestries, the installation will also include the fantastic, custommade chandeliers of Dorian Webb, a decorative tea set by Barbara Garnes, a collec tion of fine African teas by Caranda Fine Foods and a haunting soundscape provided by jazz musician, Rene Mclean.

For several years, Xenobia Bailey has been creating large-scale works that she crochets from ordinary yarn. Geometric forms predominate in her works, which often feature monumental overlapping spirals and circular forms.

Dorian Webb trained in the art of making glass in Murano, Italy and has been making fanciful chandeliers in bright colors by special commission. Working together with other artists, these two women cover the walls and ceiling of the Gallery.
