Turnpike Interchange 14A Work Schedule Next Three Weeks

14A Interchange project

 The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:

Toll Plaza

  • East side (entering 14A): renovation of existing Toll Utility Building continues.
  • Reconstruction of Toll Lanes 8-10 continues.
  • During the weekend of 04/07/17, concrete pavement construction will be performed  in Toll Lanes 8, 9 & 10. At the end of this weekend, Toll Lanes 8, 9 & 10 will be reopened. This work will be supported by Bayonne and the NJ State Police.

Ramps between the Toll Plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE)

  • Widening construction on the ramps to and from the westbound and eastbound HCE is complete to the extent possible and the final alignment has been implemented. Asphalt resurfacing of the ramps will be performed in 2017.
  • Local street level work at Garfield, Avenue C and JFK Boulevard bridges will resume in the Spring of 2017. This work will be supported by Jersey City and Bayonne Police as needed.

Avenue E / Proposed Roundabout

  • New roadway construction on Avenue E near 53rd Street continues. 
  • Deep bridge foundation construction in dedicated work zones continues. This work will be supported by Bayonne Police as needed.
  • New bridge pier construction in dedicated work zones continues.

Connector Bridge (Bridge from the Toll Plaza to Port Jersey Boulevard)

  • Traffic was shifted onto the new Connector Bridge in a two-way temporary traffic pattern. Please CLICK HERE for graphic.
  • Pedestrian usage of the bridge for access to and from Port Jersey Boulevard continues to be prohibited. Please CLICK HERE for shuttle bus pamphlet.
  • During the weekend of 05/05/17 and 05/12/17, new bridge steel installation operations will be performed over NJ Transit’s Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and Conrail’s Industrial Track. During these periods, NJ Transit Light Rail service between 34th Street Station in Bayonne and Danforth Avenue Station in Jersey City will be maintained via NJ Transit bus service. 

Route 440 and Pulaski Street Intersection / Jughandle

  • Ramp roadway construction continues.
  • Median barrier construction on Route 440 continues.
  • Ramp structure construction to southbound Route 440 continues.
  • During the week of 04/24/17, northbound Route 440 traffic will be shifted left (two northbound lanes adjacent to median) and a work zone will be established on the right.

Ramp Area East of Route 440

  • New ramp construction continues.
  • Retaining wall construction continues.
  • Bridge deck construction on the bridge structure over Pulaski Street continues.
  • Roadway construction continues.

NJ TURNPIKE EXCHANGE 14A CONSTRUCTION NOTICE

14A constuction projectThe following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:
 
Toll Plaza
  • East side (entering 14A): renovation of existing Toll Utility Building will continue.
  • Construction continues on the new east Toll Lane.
  • During the week of 02/29/16, a single toll exit lane will be closed, M-F, 8:00PM to 5:00AM.
  • Eastbound E 53rd Street is closed to through traffic at Avenue E (Toll Plaza) effective 11/09/15.  Drivers wishing to access the Toll Plaza must go down another eastbound street to Avenue E (51st, 49th, etc.) Access to local businesses (QuickChek, Value City, etc.) on E 53rd Street is maintained.  Westbound 53rd Street from the Toll Plaza to Broadway will not change.  The Eastbound closure is expected to be in place for six (6) months.  This is a major traffic change.
  • On or about March 6, 2016, eastbound 53rd Street, between Broadway and Avenue E, will be reopened. Normal two-way traffic will resume going in and out of Bayonne. Access to the Toll Plaza will be restored via the new roundabout south of 52nd Street. Motorists can follow the new roundabout to the Toll Plaza or continue south on Avenue E. Ramps between the Toll Plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE)

  • Local street level work at Garfield, Avenue C and JFK Boulevard bridges continues. This work will also be supported by Jersey City and Bayonne Police as needed.
  • Local street level work on Frontage Road continues.  This work will also be supported by Jersey City and Bayonne Police as needed.
  • Proposed Sign Structure Locations adjacent to the corner of Avenue B / E58th Street Corner, corner of Avenue C Structure and Garfield Avenue Structure (PSE&G Sub-Station), Toll Plaza Parking Area will be constructed. When needed, Bayonne PD or Jersey City PD will be asked to support this effort.
  • Work continues on a VMS Sign Structure under the Turnpike Bridge over Route 440, near the Newark Bay. Access is being provided from Route 440.
Avenue E / Proposed Roundabout
  • Deep foundation work on new bridge piers will continue. This work will be performed in dedicated work zones.
  • Bridge pier construction will continue in dedicated work zones.  Periodic closures of E52nd Street will be utilized.  This work will be supported by Bayonne Police.
  • Roadway drainage and pavement construction will continue.
  • Access to westbound 53rd Street from the Turnpike will be closed during the weekend of 02/26 through 02/28, 8:00PM Friday to 5:00PM Sunday for roadway reconstruction.  Access to local business including Value City Furniture and QuickChek will be maintained via 52nd Street. This work will be supported by Bayonne Police.
  • Southbound Avenue E will shift west to its permanent alignment, access to 52nd Street will be from southbound Avenue E only and 51st Street will be changed to a right turn only onto southbound Avenue E during the weekend of March 6, 2016.
  • Southbound Avenue E traffic will be diverted to 52nd Street on Monday, 02/29, 8:00AM to 3:30PM, for roadway reconstruction.  This work will be supported by Bayonne Police.
Connector Bridge (Bridge from the Toll Plaza to Port Jersey Boulevard)
  • A two-way traffic pattern has been implemented on the bridge ramp from Port Jersey Boulevard to the Toll Plaza.
  • Pedestrian usage of the bridge for access to and from Port Jersey Boulevard continues to be prohibited. Please CLICK HERE for shuttle bus pamphlet.
Route 440 and Pulaski Street Intersection / Jughandle
  • The southbound Route 440 Jughandle at Pulaski Street has been reduced to a single lane. Deep sewer construction continues.
  • Temporary traffic signal work is being performed in the intersection.  Temporary signals are scheduled to be activated the week of 02/29/16.
  • Utility relocation work will continue on Pulaski Street at Route 440. This work will be supported by Bayonne and Jersey City Police.
Ramp Area East of Route 440
  • Ground improvement and new ramp construction continues.
  • Retaining wall construction continues.
  • Deep sewer relocation work will continue.
  • Bridge abutment construction will begin.

American Cancer Society -Relay for Life – Makes Plea At Recent Bayonne City Council Meeting

gail-godesky-new-addressing-bay-city-council1At a recent Bayonne City Council meeting Gail Godesky Publicity Chairwoman & Sponsorship Chair for the American Cancer Society’s -Relay for Life addressed the Bayonne City Council in asking for the fee to be waived for the use of Ahern’s Veteran Stadium in Bayonne for the 201o Bayonne Relay For Life -which is tentatively scheduled for June 11- 12th, 2010

In her address to the Bayonne City Council, Ms. Godesky had this to say after addressing each of the council-members in attendance…

 “My name is Gail Godesky; I am born and raised in a great city-Bayonne. As some of you know my sister Lori Starke passed away at 49 years old on February 22nd, 2008 and my mom Lorraine Godesky at the age of  77 passed away February 17th, 2009 from the terrible disease we call cancer for lack of a better word and from a disease that kills and not quietly but rather angrily.

Cancer shows no preference-it has struck old, young, mothers, father’s, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives and dear friends.

The Bayonne  and State Police along with the Bayonne Fire Department were there to lend a hand. No one got hurt from what we hear.

Single, Mingle and Bark Night, Liberty Science Center, and Liberty Humane Society

Liberty Humane Society is thrilled to announce that they will be hosting their first singles event – “Single, Mingle, Bark!” It will be held on Friday, May 1 from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m at the Liberty Science Center! All singles and dogs welcome!

Cost for pre-registration will be $25 and $30 at the door. There will be wine tasting and light fare (nibbles), music and a silent auction. All proceeds from the event and the silent auction will benefit LHS and the Liberty Science Center.

This will be a great way to meet other single, dog lovers – though you don’t need to be single. Dress code is casual and will be held rain or shine.
