Jersey City’s Christ Hospital Expands Smoke Free Policy

The event also served as the kick-off towards the hospital becoming a totally smoke-free environment by June 2010.

Each year cigarette smoking accounts for approximately one of every five deaths, or about 438,000 people. While smoking is the number one cause of preventable death in the United States, it costs billions of health care dollars every year. Volunteers Needed for Casa -Helping Children

 Information sessions regarding the program and the role of its volunteers will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2009

Are you interested in helping children in the foster care system?  If so, Hudson County CASA is currently recruiting volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children.  CASA works through trained community volunteers to insure that needed services and assistance are made available to children while helping to move them toward safe and permanent homes. Mayor Healy & State Officials Announce Success of ‘Live Where You Work’ Program in Jersey City

Over $1M in Mortgage Loans Secured for Jersey City Residents

Healy, along with the New Jersey Housing & Mortgage Finance Agency Executive Director Marge Della Vecchia announce that the City’s participation in the state’s Live Where You Work program has resulted in over $1,000,000 in mortgage loans secured for those wishing to own homes in Jersey City.

New Jersey’s Live Where You Work program is a special home mortgage incentive program that provides a low-interest 30 or 40-year fixed-rate first mortgage for people who will live and work in Jersey City. The program also provides Smart Start down payment assistance in an amount equal to 5 percent of the first mortgage loan for qualified purchasers. Hospital Saves Lives in Hudson County

(Jersey City, N.J.) –Nationally, 1.1 million people have heart attacks each year and almost half of them die, according to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. While heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, Christopher Pierro, a 35-year-old North Bergen resident, attributes being alive today because of a lifesaving emergency angioplasty he received by board certified emergency physicians and interventional cardiologists at Christ Hospital. Mr. Valastro will appear on Thursday, November 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the College’s Culinary Arts Institute/Conference Center, 161 Newkirk Street – two blocks from the Journal Square PATH Station in Jersey City. Jersey City Museum Names New Executive Director

laurene_buckley_headshot1The Board of Trustees of the Jersey City Museum, Hudson County’s premier arts and cultural institution, announced today that Laurene Buckley, Ph.D. has been appointed Executive Director of the museum beginning October 1, 2009.  

 Dr. Buckley brings over 20 years of leadership experience at museums throughout the northeast, including the Tyler Art Gallery, SUNY Oswego; the Castellani Art Museum, Niagara University; the Queens Museum of Art; and the New Britain Museum of American Art, Connecticut.  She began her career at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and later served as Chief Curator of the Memorial Art Gallery, University of Rochester.
