The Board of Trustees of the Jersey City Museum, Hudson County’s premier arts and cultural institution, announced today that Laurene Buckley, Ph.D. has been appointed Executive Director of the museum beginning October 1, 2009.
Dr. Buckley brings over 20 years of leadership experience at museums throughout the northeast, including the Tyler Art Gallery, SUNY Oswego; the Castellani Art Museum, Niagara University; the Queens Museum of Art; and the New Britain Museum of American Art, Connecticut. She began her career at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and later served as Chief Curator of the Memorial Art Gallery, University of Rochester. Hudson County CASA is currently recruiting volunteers from all municipalities in Hudson County to represent foster children in the court system.
CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate and its volunteers speak for children in court, serve as fact finders for the judges, and safeguard the interests of the children while they are in the foster care system.
Their next information Session regarding the program and the role of its volunteers will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 from 6:00-7:00pm in Room # 901, in the Hudson County Administration Building at 595 Newark Avenue, in Jersey City. Please utilize the side or rear entrances as the main entrance of the building is locked after 5 p.m.
Hudson County has more than 700 children in foster care and most have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect.

Most folks weren’t around to witness The Great Depression of 1929 when the stock market crashed and people lost their savings, their jobs and sometimes their lives. But many of us do remember the Dotcom crash of 1987 that caused the stock market to nosedive and Internet entrepreneurs to lose their cybershirts. Well, here we are again, folks, rafting through the troubled waters of another recession in a yellow rubber dingy without a paddle.
Uncle Sam is up to his red, white and blues in I.O.U.’s. We owe a trillion and change to to China and according to CreditCard.com, every household in America has more than $8 grand in credit card debt with no end in sight. But Americans are a rugged bunch. When all we have are lemons in the fridge, we thumb our nose at the bad times and toast to better days with a swig of lemonade.
It’s the American Way and it’s the Hudson way, too.
