HCCC to Hold the Grand Opening of the Benjamin J. Dineen, III and Dennis C. Hull Gallery

Wes Moore, Nationally Acclaimed Youth Advocate, Rhodes Scholar and Best-Selling Author to Speak at Hudson County Community College

The author of “The Other Wes Moore,” a Phi Theta Kappa member and OWN TV host, will speak at the College on Thursday evening, February 19; the event is open to the community.

February 11, 2015, Jersey City, NJ – The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) 2014-2015 Lecture Series will continue this month when Wes Moore, the author of The New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-seller, The Other Wes Moore, will appear at the College.  The event will be held Thursday, February 19 at 6 p.m. in the HCCC Culinary Conference Center, 161 Newkirk Street in Jersey City – just two blocks from the Journal Square PATH Transportation Center. It is open to the entire Hudson County community, and there is no charge for admission. However, tickets are necessary and must be obtained in advance. Unique and successful program affords inmates for-credit instruction in three non-kitchen culinary courses.

Each year, more than 700,000 U.S. men and women are released from prisons, and most struggle to start a new way of life. The obvious discrimination that accompanies a conviction record is one enormous barrier to former inmates’ successful return to their communities. However, most often these individuals lack the education and skills necessary for meaningful employment.

December 9, 2014, Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Vice President for Development Joseph Sansone announced today that the HCCC Foundation’s 2014 gala fundraiser was the most successful to date. Mr. Sansone said the 17th Annual “Holiday Extravaganza” grossed a record-breaking $208,000. The event was held on December 4th at the College’s Culinary Conference Center in Jersey City. Proceeds from the event will be dedicated to scholarships for deserving students, faculty development programs, and the College’s physical expansion.

Spirit Award Goes to Hudson County Community College Vice President of North Hudson Center and Student Affairs Dr. Paula Pando

Student_Services_Award (3)On June 16, the New Jersey Council of County Colleges presented 2014 Spirit Awards to County College of Morris Vice President Student Development & Enrollment Dr. Bette Simmons, Hudson County Community College Vice President North Hudson Center & Student Affairs Dr. Paula Pando and Brookdale Community College Dean of Enrollment Development and Student Affairs Richard Pfeffer for their exemplary service to the state’s community colleges. The three were recognized for co-authoring a statewide white paper that features best practices community colleges can adopt to improve student engagement.
