Applications Available for April Art Exhibit at Bayonne Museum

OPEN TO ALL ARTISTS FROM ALL AREAS

            The Art Circle of Bayonne announced that applications are available for artists to exhibit their work April 13 to 19, 2013 at the Bayonne Community Museum.

The April show will display the following types of art: photography, mixed media, oil paintings, acrylics, and watercolors.  Limited space will be available for three-dimensional art. All work submitted must belong to one of the foregoing categories. There will be an entrance fee of $10 per artist, payable to the Art Circle of Bayonne. Participation will be limited to sixty artists. Applications will be available Monday through Friday, except holidays, at the Bayonne Recreation Division, Room 13, at City Hall, 630 Avenue C.  The deadline for applications is Thursday, March 28. Applications will also be available by e-mailing [email protected].

            Participation in the exhibit is open to members of the Art Circle of Bayonne.  It is not necessary to be a Bayonne resident to join the organization.  Membership in the Art Circle is available for $25 per year.  To join the Art Circle, please send an e-mail to [email protected].

            The opening reception for the April art show will take place on Saturday, April 13, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m.

This will be the second art show at the museum in 2013.  Other events will be scheduled throughout the year.  Details will be announced.

BAYONNE HIGH SCHOOL ART STUDENTS RECEIVE AWARDS AT EMERGING 2010 Art Competition

emergart2010-finalAmanda Unger and Lilian Makar were presented with awards for their artwork in the 22nd Annual Emerging Artists Exhibit sponsored by the Art Administrators of New Jersey. This exhibit featured artwork produced by students who are studying art in high schools throughout the state of New Jersey.

 

             Amanda, a junior, and Computer Graphics student of Mrs. Charlann Meluso, received a Merit Award for her image titled “Your Favorite Drug”.   It was a digital image of a snap shot of a prescription drug bottle spilling jewels onto a hand that is reaching into the photo, creating an illusion of a third dimension. Art Views- Emerging Artist Johnny Pens

 Emerging new artist John Marto aka “Johnny Pens” is unique and very talented; his ability to create cartoon drawings with the use of color pens is amazing as it is impressive. An artist in the downtown Jersey City area, Pens, inception into his art began by making small circles and lines on regular paper. As Pens recalls it, it began as just simple doodling on the Path train, but later turned into an assortment of cartoon characters.johnny-marto-artwork-2

He went from drawing on the Path train to drawing in front of his home, which would soon gather an audience of children as well as adults; they would stop in front of his home during the summer to view him as he drew. Pens began to sketch these lively cartoon characters on manila folders, and with each drawing he captured more and more detail. Framed and displayed they are artistry at its finest.
