Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has provided the City of Bayonne with updated information on the Bayonne Bridge construction project.
At Pier N2, south of 1st Street, by the Kill Van Kull shoreline, work continues on constructing footings.
At Piers N3, N4, and N5, south of 1st Street, work has been completed for now.

Bayonne’s Culture Scene Takes Off -Art, Theater and New Outdoor Stage on the Rise

Jersey City’s culture scene just got some competition. It seems Bayonne, its Hudson sister to the south has been going through a renaissance of sorts. Art galleries, theater companies and now a new performing arts pavilion are giving the city a cultural facelift.

There’s the JCC of Bayonne’s Fine Art Gallery currently featuring A COUPLE OF IMAGES, paintings and photographs by Bayonne residents and artists Billy Zbylut and Patty Mulligan; the Art Circle of Bayonne at the Bayonne Community Museum which has a Spring Art Show underway  featuring Bayonne artists; the new Bayonne Theater Company is hosting a gala on Thursday, May 21, with its first show THE MUSIC MAN in pre-production; and a Bayonne performing arts pavilion which will host local theater, music and dance groups, as well as stars like Willie Nelson is breaking ground in a few weeks. .

New Jersey Turnpike Authority Officials, Bayonne  Mayor Jimmy Davis The Bayonne City Council,  Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, New Jersey State Senator Sandra Cunningham, Assemblyman Charles Mainor,Jersey City  Deputy Director Vivian Brady-Philips  broke ground  on Wednesday, March 11th for the $310 million NJ Turnpike Authority’s Interchange 14 A Improvement Project.
Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has advised the City of Bayonne concerning the latest developments in the Bayonne Bridge construction project.
The assembly of the gantry is 95% complete. The gantry will have a load and performance test on December 8. This gantry will carry the pre-cast roadway slabs to the new piers. The piers are the columns that will hold up the roadway. The crane height will start at 120 feet and then grow to 300 feet once it gets closer to the Kill Van Kull. The crane started constructing new piers on November 14 near Margaret Street and 5th Street. The gantry base is at 6th Street and travels the entire length of the bridge. Sometime this fall, another crane will be in service working on the south end of Bayonne near 1st Street. The first to open in 40 years and the first standalone firehouse in over 80 years.
Located on Chosen Few Avenue the 160 ft wide fire house designed by RSC Archetics of Newark is a state of the art marvel with all kinds of high-tech equipment to keep the Bayonne community safe
for years to come.
Bayonne Bergen Point Festival to Ring in Halloween

As Halloween approaches, many of us are gearing up to have some bewitching fun as witches, goblins and things that go bump in the night. In Bayonne, the UEZ and Bergen Point merchants are preparing to scare up some local fun at the Bayonne Bergen Point Festival to be held on Sat, Oct. 18, from noon to 5 pm.
A community celebration, the festival, which will be held on Broadway from 5th to Cottage Streets will feature entertainment, more than 30 food vendors and lots of fun things for the kids like rides, balloon sculptures, temporary tattoos, sand art, face painting and more.  Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that the Shop Bayonne Property Tax Reward Program will be launched in early August. The program will encourage people to shop locally by providing property tax credits for homeowners and rebate checks for renters, every time they patronize local participating merchants. Mayor Smith said, “Bayonne stores and professional services need to increase their numbers of customers, and Bayonne property owners want to reduce their tax bills. The Shop Bayonne Card will achieve both goals. We are very excited about this program, which will be a win-win for the people and the businesses of Bayonne.  It is also important to mention that this program has no cost to our City. Bayonne Community Bank has sponsored this initiative.â€
      Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish Center will be the Bayonne location for a New Jersey gun buyback program on Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on both days. The parish center is located at 39 East 22nd Street in Bayonne. The Mt. Carmel Parish Center is set back from the street, and has a parking lot for visitors. The gun buyback program will also take place at five other church locations in Hudson and Union Counties on those same two days. Residents can turn in up to three guns anonymously, with no questions asked. In return they will receive up to $250 per weapon.Â
         The event is co-sponsored by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, the Hudson and Union County Prosecutors’ Offices, and the Bayonne, Elizabeth, Jersey City, Linden, Plainfield, and Union City Police Departments.Â
         The gun buyback program began last December, and has taken place in several locations across New Jersey. Since December, there have been gun buyback events in New Jersey in Atlantic, Camden, Cumberland, Essex, Mercer, Monmouth, and Passaic Counties. They have resulted in the collection of more than 12,500 deadly firearms statewide. The program’s goal is to reduce the number of weapons in circulation. New Jersey’s Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman said, “A gun that is no longer in circulation – a gun that no longer exists – cannot be used to commit a crime, to shoot someone in the heat of an argument, or go off accidentally in the hands of a curious child.† Mayor Smith said, “Gun violence is a serious problem in America. The gun buyback program is an important step forward in improving public safety in New Jersey. The City of Bayonne welcomes the opportunity to participate in this statewide effort.â€Â Public Safety Director Jason O’Donnell said, “I would like to thank the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Bayonne Police Department for working together closely to plan the gun buyback event in Bayonne. We look forward to continuing more such efforts in the future.â€Â Police Chief Ralph Scianni said, “The Bayonne Police Department and all of the law enforcement agencies involved have developed the gun buyback program in cooperation with local churches. I would like to thank Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for providing its parish center as the Bayonne location for this important program.
