Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that produce market vouchers are available for low-income seniors through the Bayonne Office On Aging.  The vouchers would enable qualified seniors to purchase New Jersey-grown fresh fruit and vegetables at the Bayonne farmers’ market and other approved locations.  Participating farmers at the Bayonne farmers’ market sell New Jersey produce that is eligible for the voucher program.  The Bayonne farmers’ market takes place on Tuesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at West 23rd Street and Del Monte Drive, which is located between Broadway and Avenue C.  The Office On Aging will indicate the locations of other approved farmers’ markets to the voucher recipients. Starting this past July 1st, the Bayonne Urban Enterprise Zone Board has assumed the management of the Bayonne Special Improvement District (Bayonne SID), which extends from 17th to 30th Streets on Broadway. This change in management occurred as part of Mayor Mark A. Smith’s effort to make government more efficient and accountable. By moving the management of the Bayonne SID to the UEZ Board, more of the tax monies that are assessed on the businesses in the district will be spent on efforts to improve the district as opposed to office expenses and overhead. Mayor Smith recognizes the importance of a thriving downtown shopping district and is committed to working towards the goal of making Broadway a destination for families to shop and dine.
 The district already has a nine-hole miniature golf course that has recently been upgraded. With special thanks to Lauren Dellabella, a successful farmer’s market has been added to the district every Tuesday from 2pm to 7pm until the end of October. The farmer’s market continues to grow and attracts over 600 people each Tuesday.
It’s new, all fresh, healthy and delicious… so what is it? It’s the Bayonne Farmer’s Market starting tomorrow, AND every Tuesday, until October 30!!
