Fashion with Compassion -Bayonne Women’s Club hosts Fashion Show for United Cerebral Palsy

The Bayonne Women’s Club is well-known to many throughout Bayonne for its charitable and humanitarian acts and since its inception in January of 2010 the women of this organization have helped to contribute to a multitude of causes. They volunteer in soup kitchens, gather donations for food pantries and in the annual “Relay for Life,” they do their part in the fight against cancer.

On Sat, May 5th, the Bayonne Women’s Club will host a fashion show, “Fashion with Compassion” to take place at St. Andrews School gym, 124 Broadway, Bayonne Doors open at 6:30 pm and the fashion show starts at 7 pm. Proceeds from the event will benefit the United Cerebral Palsy of Hudson County-Bayonne and will also help to replenish local food pantries. Jersey City to Host Green Drive Expo as Part of Project 365:

Jersey City to Host Green Drive Expo as Part of Project 365: Jersey City Green Week

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, in collaboration with the Jersey City Environmental Commission, the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation, the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency, the Planning Division, the Law Department, the Department of Health & Human Services/Division of Cultural Affairs, and several other city departments and agencies, as well as local businesses, will kick off the first annual Green Drive Expo recognizing eco-friendly vehicles. The Green Drive Expo will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012, in the City Hall parking lot at the intersection of Montgomery Street and Marin Boulevard.

The expo, which is part of Project 365: Jersey City Green Week, is being held in conjunction with closing celebrations at Van Vorst Park and Pershing Field, as well as a shuttle tour of the new Skyway Park at the former PJP landfill. The Green Drive Expo will include green vehicles such as the Volt Electric, Malibu Eco, Cruze Eco, Hybrid Civic, Hybrid CRV, Hybrid Honda Insight and Jersey City’s First Police Smart car. In addition to getting an up-close look at the various vehicles, the public will have the opportunity to talk with vehicle representatives about eco-friendly car performance, purchase costs and possible maintenance issues. Jersey City has been at the forefront of Sustainability since 2009 when the administration presented the City Council with a package of four “green” ordinances.” One of those ordinances requires the city to purchase vehicles that utilize alternative fuels instead of conventional fossil fuel. “We want to continue our efforts to make Jersey City one of the greenest cities in the nation and provide opportunities for our residents to lead sustainable lifestyles,” said Mayor Healy. HCCC Fine Arts Students to Display Works in Gallery at Jersey City’s Brennan Courthouse

JERSEY CITY, N.J. / April 30, 2012 — Hudson County Community College’s Fine Arts Department is currently exhibiting artwork of several students now through Monday, May 7, 2012. The exhibit is located at The Brennan Gallery, in the rotunda of the Justice William J. Brennan Jr. Courthouse, 583 Newark Avenue, Jersey City. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

 

 

 

HCCC to Host Alumni Homecoming Reception-April 30th

JERSEY CITY, N.J. / April 30, 2012 — The Hudson County Community College Foundation will an Alumni Homecoming Reception on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the College’s Culinary Arts Institute/Conference Center, 161 Newkirk St., beginning at 6:30 p.m.

 

Admission is $10 per person. College alumni of all years are invited to enjoy the evening visiting with old classmates.

All Saints Episcopal Day School and Hoboken Charter School Team up to Fight Hunger with ‘Empty Bowls’ Events on April 28

Students from All Saints Episcopal Day School and Hoboken Charter School are learning about and striving to address hunger and homelessness, and on Saturday, April 28th, will ask the community to join their crusade. As part of the international Empty Bowls project, the schools will each host simple meals, with the events intended to raise awareness and collect funds, food, toiletries and other necessities for a range of local charities that help those in need.

HOBOKEN’S UPTOWN BRANCH OF THE CHASE BANK IS ROBBED BY WOMAN

 

On Tuesday evening April 24th  around 6pm a  Chase bank was held up on Fourteenth Street  according to Hoboken Police.

Police say that a 5-foot-5   woman—of medium built—came into the bank allegedly showed the teller a note, and demanded  money. Police said she didn’t use a gun  on teller  but the woman did keep her hand on her purse acting like she had a gun.

The woman left the bank with $1000 and fled eastbound on Fourteenth Street according to the Police report.

At this time she is still at large but seen on the banks surveillance cameras (See Photos)

 Warning Phase Activated at 12:01 a.m. on 4/14/2012 and Ticketing Period to Commence on May 13, 2012

JERSEY CITY – Police Department officials announced today that an additional red light camera began its trial phase at 12:01 a.m. (midnight) on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the intersection of Kennedy Boulevard and Route 139/Hoboken Avenue. The camera, which is part of a New Jersey Department of Transportation program, will take video and photos of red-light violators.

The trial phase or “warning period” will last until 12:01 a.m. on May 13, 2012 during which violators will receive a written warning in the mail. After that, motorists cited for running the red light will receive an $85 citation. Meadowlands Racetrack Job Fair to Accept Resumes for Off-Track Wagering Jobs in Bayonne

Bayonne Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that New Meadowlands Racetrack LLC will hold a job fair on Saturday, April 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Meadowlands Racetrack, Clubhouse Level, 50 State Route 120, in East Rutherford. Smith said, “At that time, New Meadowlands Racetrack LLC will be collecting resumes to meet its future staffing needs at the Winners off-track wagering (OTW) facility that will open Bayonne this summer. I would like to urge any Bayonne residents interested in working at Winners to present a resume at the racetrack next Saturday.” Smith continued, “The OTW is expected to provide more than 100 jobs. This is a great opportunity to get in on the beginning of a new business in Bayonne. I would like to thank New Meadowlands Racetrack LLC for offering these new employment opportunities in Bayonne.”

The opening reception  which ran from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  drew many Bayonne dignitaries,  residents, and family and friends of the  artists who participated.
