Mayor Jimmy Davis congratulated the new officers and their families.  He advised the families that they would have to get used to the new officers’ work shifts, some of which would include work on major holidays. Addressing the new officers, Mayor Davis said that they “have joined the ranks of one of the greatest police departments in the United States.”  During the past year, he said, the Bayonne Police Department “stood tall” and “made each of us proud.”

          Public Safety Director Robert Kubert said, “Police work in general is a very tough job today.”  Referring to the new officers, he said, “It is a testament that they’re still here.”  Director Kubert commended City Hall Clinic Nurse Suzanne Cavanaugh and her colleagues, and Emergency Management Coordinator Edoardo (Junior) Ferrante for the roles they have played during the Coronavirus emergency. 

          Police Chief Robert Geisler thanked Mayor Davis, the City Council, and Director Kubert for the “planning and forethought” that went into adding the new officers to the department.  Chief Geisler called being a police officer “the best job in the world,” which provides “a front row seat to life.”  He asked the new officers to treat the public respectfully by envisioning them as members of their families. 

          City Council President Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski commended the new officers on behalf of the City Council.  She congratulated the first African-American women police officers.  Addressing all of the new recruits, Council President Ashe-Nadrowski predicted, “Bayonne will be better and safer because of you.”

          The program included an invocation by Father John Fencik, a benediction by Rev. Dorothy Patterson, and musical selections by the Bayonne Police Pipes and Drums.      

          Here is some brief information about each new officer:

Police Officer Shady Nasralla, a graduate of Bayonne High School, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology at Pennsylvania State University.

          Police Officer Michael May, a graduate of Bayonne High School, is a lifelong Bayonne resident.

Police Officer Bryan Cruz, a graduate of Bayonne High School, received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Hudson County Community College.

Police Officer Hany Kased, a graduate of Bayonne High School, joined the U.S. Air Force and has served in the Air Force Reserves for the past ten years.

Police Officer Robert Candelaria, a graduate of Bayonne High School, earned an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Police Officer Thomas Jurcisin, Jr., a graduate of Bayonne High School, is a lifelong Bayonne resident.

Police Officer Alexis Ogbin, a graduate of Holy Family Academy, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. 

Police Officer Jonathan White was homeschooled, and then earned an Associate’s Degree in Engineering Science at Hudson County Community College.

Police Officer Zachary Hyman, a graduate of Bayonne High School, completed four-and-a-half years of service and two deployments in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Police Officer Marco Coelho is a graduate of Bayonne High School.  His grandfather serves in the Brazilian Civil Police.

Police Officer Kevin Sliwowski, a graduate of Bayonne High School, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in both Criminal Justice and Psychology at Kean University. He is a former member of the Jersey City Police Department (2017-2020).

Police Officer Mark Hermosisima, a graduate of Bayonne High School, attended John Jay College, pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice.

Police Officer Brandon Olander, a graduate of Bayonne High School, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at New Jersey City University.

Police Officer Robert Cavanaugh, a graduate of Marist High School, is a former Hudson County Sheriff’s Officer (2017-2020).

Police Officer Jared Ensmenger, a graduate of Bayonne High School, continued his education at Sussex County Community College and Ramapo College, pursuing a degree in Communications. 

Police Officer Jack Vreeland, a graduate of Bayonne High School, earned an Associate’s Degree in Business at Union County College.

Police Officer Mina Saleeb, a graduate of Bayonne High School, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at New Jersey City University.

Police Officer Ali Aboubakr, a graduate of Bayonne High School, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at New Jersey City University.

Police Officer Perla Estevez, a graduate of Bayonne High School, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology at New Jersey City University.

Police Officer Erik Lyman is a graduate of Hodgson Vo-Tech.  He earned an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management at Southern New Hampshire University.

Police Officer Febronia Botros, a graduate of Bayonne High School, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Rutgers University.

Police Officer Joseph Cordato, a graduate of Bayonne High School, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology at William Paterson University.

Police Officer Kevin Vazquez is a graduate of North Bergen High School.

Police Officer Justin Rivera, a graduate of Bayonne High School, continued his education at Hudson County Community College, pursuing a degree in Business. 

Police Officer Thomas McGuckin, a graduate of Bayonne High School, He continued his education at Cecil College and Kean University, where he pursued a degree in Physical Education.

Police Officer Tanya Roberts, a graduate of Bayonne High School, continued her education at Hudson County Community College.
