Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and its contractors have provided the City of Bayonne with updated information about the reconstruction of the Turnpike’s 14A toll plaza.
The first detour connected with the project will take place the week on May 11. Frontage Road, a west-east connector road north of the toll plaza, will be closed. More specific information will be announced. Other detours will take place in autumn 2015, and will be announced.
Work continues in the toll plaza area. Construction zones have been established around traffic ramps.
Preparation work is underway for demolition of some existing structures in the 14A area. For example, abatement work is underway at the former Millions company property. On Pulaski Street workers continue their efforts to move a gas line. That work will go on into May. Construction drums will be placed to mark off a Pulaski Street work area. No jersey barriers will be involved at that location.
In about three weeks, work is expected to begin on the ramps leading to the Newark Bay and Route 440 bridges. On or about May 11, steel beams will be removed from Kennedy Boulevard near the Turnpike. During the last week of April, there will be work involving the installation of a directional bore at 52nd Street and Avenue E.
Two more homes have undergone preconstruction inspections. More outreach efforts will take place to notify people in the neighborhood by the Turnpike about the construction. The 14A project website is being updated.
Various nighttime lane closures will take place on the Turnpike, in order to replace construction panels.
